The next day, things are hazy for the hung over young writer. Lina is appalled at her behavior from last night--the behavior she manages to remember--and is certain she won't see Russell ever again. But, fate has other plans. The two reconnect for a date. Everything is going well, and Lina begins to believe that her New Year's resolution is coming true. Then, Russell drops a bombshell that takes Lina down an uncertain path she's convinced will lead to a happy ending.
I found this debut novel to be inspiring. It wasn't full of the cliché, formulaic storylines that are found in many romance novels. Naturally, there's the usual "boy likes girl" conflict. But, the heroine Lina is put into an awkward, hiliarious situation with Russell that really makes you think how many times the obvious has been apparent, but was totally disregarded. Instead of pitying or being angry at Lina, I found myself rooting for her. I wanted to be the fourth friend who could give her perspective on the situation, and hoped she listened. I'm still a little on the fence about the ending. I'm not sure if it alludes to a follow up novel, but I'd be disappointed if I didn't find out what happens to Lina in her next chapter of life.
This is a great summer read perfect for the beach, lake cabin, or hotel pool of your choice. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this hard to put down novel.
I found this story to be refreshingly imaginative. This page turner will take the reader on a thought-provoking and reflective journey. Also, the writing style is uncomplicated which makes for an enjoyable read.
It's one of those extraordinary stories that come along that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to its final ending. But does it end here? I doubt it! I suspect there's much more to follow. I'm giving nothing away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the reading adventure that awaits the reader! I certainly enjoyed it and would very much recommend it for both men and women.
The author must be commended for having written such an engaging and absorbing story. I'll be looking forward to future works from this talented writer. I would highly recommend this book to both men and women of all ages. There's something here that both men and women can learn a lot from.
Katalina is a loveable, yet emotionally unstable young woman. I couldn't help but hope that things would work out for her. She seems to stumble through life looking for something without having any clue of what it is. The author develops Lina's character as the story progresses to the point where she actually seems to get a handle on things. Only to be thrown into another disaster. I love the ending, and hope the story continues!
This is a well-written novel, with unexpected plot twists that kept me engaged throughout the story. All of the characters are well rounded and believable. I highly recommend this exciting, romantic, and humorous story.
I adored the main character, Lina. She is smart, likeable, a bit vulnerable and flawed, and I think most importantly, she is human. Her character and personality were realistic and her thoughts and experience relatable. Though I was a bit annoyed in the beginning with Lina's overly girly and somewhat loopy actions as well as her indecisiveness (though the text exchange with Russell was hilarious and absolutely relatable - we've all been there!), I enjoyed watching her grow and develop into a more confident and independent woman with a surer sense of what she wants and loves.
I was admittedly a bit bothered by the first-person present tense narrative in the beginning, but I quickly began to realize the author must have chosen this writing style to make readers feel as though they were right there alongside Lina, seeing what she saw and feeling what she felt. In addition, the pacing was steady and smooth - I was especially surprised at how quickly the story dove into the thick of things, which I personally loved because the author was able to really pull me in within the first few chapters. That being said, I also appreciated the author's abilities to slow things down and take some time for those scenes that really mattered.
A fun, light, and welcome breather from the more gritty horror and complicated fantasy books I usually read! I highly recommend this to readers of both sexes and all ages.
Note that I received a free copy from the author for an honest, unbiased review. Opinions and thoughts are mine and mine alone. That being said - highly recommended.
