It has no lcd readout, just an led for status with bt connection & read/write to micro SD card. I am not sure what size micro SD goes in there but I used a generic 8gb and it read fine.
The included packaging is very nice. It comes with a zip up molded case that matches great. It's durable and has very little to no spare room inside due to what's included.
Inside you will get the meter with 3 leads approx 1 meter each(two red,one black). This is for the voltage & current reading simultaneously. This is a very nice option as you cannot do this on a fluke etc.
Then it comes with alligator clips that go on existing leads with a slip on design. It's not super easy to get attached but it works. I would recommend that you get a nice lead set separate from the ones included to replace them.
It would make it a much better purchase if they upgraded this in the price. This is my only gripe.
I have used it on a solar project on my rv and it works flawless.
Mind you it does stay on all the time so make sure you put it in hibernation mode via the app. Also make sure you download the newest version of the app and have a bt 4.0 phone.
Once in hibernation mode, it will make you batteries last up to a year and it's only 2 x aa's. This is done by shorting the common (black) and the resistance (ohm) leads together for a few seconds, then the led will start blinking again.
I had bought a separate case (fluke cam zip case) and leads (fluke safe guard ) and I will use this for every project.
Also mind you that you are able to read an electrical setup a lot safer with the remote capabilities. This allows the user to turn on/off the system while maintaining a accurate readout from a safe distance.
Also, if you have a solar field and want to monitor multiple mooshimeters at the combiners. This is perfect as the have a awesome distance in plain line of sight. Over 50ft. With obstructions, I would gestimate 20-30ft.
Connection is painless once it finds a connection. Just make sure to put a good set of rechargeables (eneloop) and this meter will not die due to a leaking battery.
I would recommend to an electrician or a ee. For the price you are getting a great piece of equipment and amazon has great customer service.
I bought this with my own bard earned money and do not regret it at all.
For a quick and easy test, I measured the voltage of a battery and compared it to my Fluke 87-V (1.4981 on the Mooshi vs 1.499 on the Fluke). My fluke hasn't been calibrated since it left the factory, but this was nevertheless enough to convince me that the meter is accurate enough for my use. Although I'll mostly be using this on the bench, I also tried a distance test by walking across my house, putting one wall in the line-of-sight between me and the meter. The signal failed around 40-45 feet.
It comes with three probes and three alligator clips to go with them. They seem of average quality and average length (about a meter). I'll probably be using mini-grabbers with it instead of probes, so the probes will go straight into my spare probes drawer, and it's always nice to pad the spare probes drawer. It also comes with a carrying case that seems of decent quality. As I mentioned above, batteries are included, and came installed in the device.
There is a graphing feature, which I tried out in a couple of different ways. It's certainly no substitute for an oscilloscope, but it will suffice to show some trends over time. It also has a data logging feature where it can log to a micro-SD card, which I haven't used, nor do I foresee a need to use it. It's nice to have the capability should the need arise.
It does lack a power switch, but makes up for it with a hibernate mode. You put the meter into hibernate mode using the app, and then you touch the probes together to wake it back up. That's effectively your on/off switch when you plan on not using it for a while. I do wish they had chosen to implement a rechargeable battery. I understand the developer's rationale -- the batteries should last a long time and a rechargeable adds cost and complexity. Maybe they will consider offering a rechargeable version in the future.
In conclusion, I think this meter offers two distinct advantages over the average DMM of equivalent price: 1) simultaneous measurement of both voltage and current, and 2) the ability to view the meter remotely on your smartphone or tablet. Both of those are great capabilities to have in a secondary meter. If you're considering this as your primary meter, then I think it would serve that purpose well, at least for those folks that are carrying a smartphone anyway.
