Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Moragh, Holly's Ghost started out with An Absolute Bargain as working title. I am a firm believer that the story demands the title and it can only emerge when the book is nearing completion. I also believe that the title should give the reader a hint of what the book is about. An Absolute Bargain thus became Moragh, Holly's Ghost, a far more apt title.
Atmospherics, you know, the shadows cast on the curtains by the flickering light of a candle, unseasonal weather, thunder storms, doors opening or closing by themselves when there is no wind, birds and animals (owls in this instance) behaving contrary to their nature, that sort of thing, play a large part in Moragh, Holly's Ghost (and my subsequent novels). I think my novels carry a distict neo-gothic element. People must be dabbling in the craft with disastrous effect and serious witches have to read the tarot or be staring into other dimensions to fix what went awry.
I love writing bad characters and good characters behaving badly in a given situation. Nicole is the badly behaved character in Moragh, Holly's Ghost. But she is a troubled woman. There will be more about Nicole, Holly and Joshua in the 2nd and 3rd books in the Moragh Haunting series.

If you miss the romance stories you read in high school and enjoy supernatural overtones, then this book is for you. I liked the use of owls to set the tone. The use of signs and astrology references at the beginning of each chapter was interesting. However, I must confess I found the typos and editorial issues (e.g., frequent switching from present to past tense; page breaks in the middle of the page)distracting and it detracted from the story.

`Joshua skimmed down the page, not registering what he was reading, when a tiny advert squashed between Lost & Found and Obituaries jumped to his attention. It simply read:

Husband needed.

Call Holly Turnbull 021 768 9223

No pranks please

Joshua read it a second time before he scrubbed both hands over his face, his elbows crumpling the newspaper on the table. What was the world coming to, if women had to resort to dailies to get them a man? He wondered. Would this poor, misguided soul even want the kind of man who was like to respond to this silly ad?... Surely this Holly woman didn't think she was going to get a bona fide offer of marriage from this tiny advert, did she?... He waited for his laptop to boot up, then typed `Holly Turnbull'... Holly turned out to be a journalist and not bad to look at either. He was impressed, even though it seemed odd that a woman like her would advertise for a husband. Oh, well, each one to her own. She would do nicely in his newly formed plan.'

Joshua Jordan has found a way to push Nicole, his fiancée of four years, into making the final commitment by scheduling a wedding. He will give her an ultimatum of time and if she doesn't find it within herself to meet the deadline, he will take this Holly woman up on her marriage proposal for just long enough to bring Nicole to her senses.

Holly Turnbull didn't actually place the ad for a husband in the daily paper, her three best friends and roommates did. Holly's ex-husband Donald has refused to allow her to see their two boys for long enough. The girls believe that with a husband, Donald will have no excuses for not allowing her to see the boys.

I enjoyed this book. My attention was grabbed from the first page, with the consequence that I read far too late into the night knowing all the while that I had a full day at work ahead of me. Staying up past my bedtime proved definitely worthwhile! I especially appreciated the inherent teaching about right use of magical practices, that it's not play and not to be taken lightly. I look forward to more books from Maggie Tideswell.

Moragh, Holly's Ghost is a book unlike I have ever read. Built on multiple layers, this was one book that was hard to predict the ending. I didn't know until I was finally upon it, how the different layers tied together. This story is told from multiple character's perspectives which makes it a thrilling and suspenseful mystery with all of the elements that make a book a success; love, sex, mystery, intrigue, paranormal hauntings and murder. Moragh, Holly's Ghost was a hard to put down book that was simply addicting. A must have for any reader of suspense or the paranormal.

I love books by Maggie Tideswell because they are based in South Africa, the country in which I was born. I can relate to the breathtaking scenery and while reading the book, there are certain phrases that are familiar to me. Ms. Tideswell is a newly favorite author of mine and I feel as though I walk away a better person for having read the work of such a talented author.

The unplanned, hasty marriage of convenience between Joshua Jordan and Holly Turnbull triggers a series of events nobody could have predicted.
A ghostly presence, calling herself Moragh haunts Holly, and it seems she will never go away until Holly has used her journalistic talents to uncover the story of her untimely death. This proves to be more difficult than one could imagine, with no death certificate to be found.
All Holly really wants is to regain the visitation rights with her two children, that have been denied by her ex-husband's new wife. All Joshua really wants is to make his long time fiancée Nicole jealous enough to agree to a wedding date.
Magic spells, witches, chanting, tarot cards and paranormal happenings lead the reader down a dark, mysterious route where nothing is as it seems, to the terrifying climax.
In the end, love is the winner.
This author knows how to create all the elements of a great paranormal romance leaving the reader gasping and wishing for more.
