4.0 out of 5 stars Best blade for the price, and all around best purchase for makers starting out!
By J. Perez on May 11, 2020
I purchased this back in late Dec or early January, I had planned on making a handle and finishing it back when I got it.. But I wasn't able to get to it, till the beginning of May 2020. During the time I had before starting, I went through multiple styles of handles on paper. I don't really care for the traditional Mora shapes or materials for their handles. But, I finally decided on a shape and got all the materials together. I purchased some bronze for a bolster and started. As you can see from the pics it was all a process and very new to me.. Even though I have been watching a ton of YouTube vids on how to put it together.

Here are the materials:
Morakniv no. 3 high carbon steel blank
1/8" Thick bronze bar, cut to shape
Reg maple wood I had on hand for the main body of the handle.
Japanese maple for the handle accents
Gorilla glue and epoxy
Beeswax based finish for the handle
Birch plywood for the internal wood part of the sheath.
Veg tanned leather for the outer covering.
And leather dye and saddle soap finish for the leather.

I am very pleased with the outcome for my first try at this. The blade came razor sharp from the factory, beautiful and polished. I blued the blade once it was in the handle. The tang wasn't cut to make it shorter (which would be dumb to cut the tang shorter)!
This knife was set at a slight angle, but in future ones I won't be doing that.

Overall a great product!! It's all up to you too make it what you want it to be!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality blades, sharp as a surgical scalpel
By Incitatus on January 11, 2020
After owning several Moraknikv knives for the last couple of years, I finally purchased two Mora blades, the #2 and the #3 to try my hand at knife making. Arrived fast and as expected they were very, and I mean VERY sharp. These two knives are my first creations and I must say I am pretty surprised myself of how nice they are. The brass pommels and hand guards are from an Amazon vendor and are hand cast in Ukraine, the handles are made from California mule deer antler, stained and clear coated with Truoil. The adhesive I used is 30 minute epoxy, which is not only the strongest, but also gives plenty of time for corrections and adjustments. The blade spine is unfinished (the manufacturer says in order to cut cost) and needs to be ground and polished. No problem, takes an extra 5 minutes on the sanding belt machine. Now all my friends want a knife like this so it looks I will need to make more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value and results
By Black Peter on February 29, 2020
This is the first knife handle I've made, hidden tang was a chore (!!) but I'm glad I stuck with it. The quality of this knife is excellent, I wish they sold full tang blanks. I may go against my swearing off hidden tang, just to keep using Morakniv blades. The tang is very hard, i had to modify mine to accept pins. It was easy enough to do, but if you're not familiar with working with steel it might be challenging. As others have mentioned, this blade is very sharp! I wasn't expecting a blank to be so sharp, so be careful!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The negative reviews must be from competitors
By Amazon Customer on September 5, 2019
Bent blade or tang? Dull? This thing was beautiful right out of the box! It was razor sharp, meaning it shaved hair off my arm. Nice and heavy. Perfectly straight. And of course it stains. It's carbon steel, not stainless. You can't treat it like it is.
Really, for the price? It's a deal. Can't wait to haft it and use it on my next trip to the woods.

Update. Finished with a hickory handle. This blade makes a beautiful knife.
