The Morakniv Classic Original is what a true Morakniv looked like before it received its characteristic red handle. The original is still going strong in its role as a functional utility knife. It has also become a collector's item and an exclusive souvenir. This knife has an oiled birch wood handle and a laminated steel blade. The core of the blade is of high carbon steel surrounded by a softer alloyed steel layer. A high hardness (HRC 61) is achieved resulting in a knife blade with superior toughness, cutting edge retention and long life. Vulcanized fiber sheath included. Morakniv has been manufacturing the highest-quality knives in Mora, Sweden since 1891. Professionals worldwide trust the quality materials and fine craftsmanship of Mora Knives. Mora knives feature ergonomically-designed handles and employ premium-quality knife steel that is optimally adapted to the task for which the knife is intended.

Of Interest: It emits kind of a fish like smell when its being sharpened. I don’t know why that is…
The handle on this Morakniv Classic Original #1 is significantly smaller. It's the same profile and color of the handles on the Morakniv carving tools but it's quite a bit smaller.
The laminated steel blade of this knife stays sharp a long time and can be honed to a razor's edge. This knife is a great addition to my growing collection of Mora knives but I wish the handle was as comfortable as the others.
Depending on current pricing, you might wanna just buy the blade and stick a handle on it. The blade on this knife is pretty good, but the handle isn't worth more than a few bucks. :)
These knives come with a very, very keen edge. If you keep the factory angle, the edge pretty much requires a hone or a steel for regular maintenance. But this is one of the benefits of chromium-free steel, IMO. It takes a super keen edge, and it repairs easily when the edge rolls.
Regarding the Scandi grind, I'm still a bit on the fence. Past the edge, the bevel gets thick quite fast. If you have any doubts about it, try the Mora carving knife model 120. On a skinny carving knife, the scandi grind really shines.
