I haven't rated the feeder for sturdiness or durability since I just received it, but my initial impressions is that this feeder scores a win for small songbirds. I'll try to update my review in a few weeks and let you know how the feeder is performing.
Update: Continues to deter bully birds, and little birds have no trouble accessing the tube feeder.
HOWEVER, as a couple of other reviewers have noted, I've had two birds get their claws get caught in the metal brackets that hold the two halves of the wire cage together -- they couldn't free themselves and died from broken legs! I'm going to try to remove the clips and simply zip-tie the pieces together to prevent the deaths of anymore birds.
We purchased this feeder to provide the smaller birds in our area (Carolina wrens, chickadees, titmice, house finches, song sparrows, house sparrows, nuthatches, and American goldfinches) a place to eat where they wouldn't be harassed by the brown-headed cowbirds that were eating us out of house and home every few days. We have very active feeders and swapped out our regular tube feeder for this caged one of the same size. After two weeks of use, only 1 of the 6 birds we get here listed as "loving this feeder" (chickadees plus the unlisted song sparrows) seemed to be able to squeeze through the bars. The space between the bars is just under 1-5/16" (see picture). The sudden shift of all traffic to the more easily accessible hopper feeder containing the same food was bedlam and the cage feeder was retired until a new solution could be found.
Then came the starlings... And I thought the cowbirds were bad?! Starlings eat just about everything. They show up in droves and whitewash the balcony to boot.
Here's the thing: Different birds prefer different foods. So if you want to attract a certain bird, use the right food. But different birds also prefer different feeders. Take it from a guy who bought 8 different types of feeder in the past 2 months because social distancing has made him a crazy bird person. Lol. Experiment with different combinations and keep track of what works best for your area.
While working on a solution that made our balcony less attractive to the starlings, all feeders were brought inside and the cage feeder was put back in commission to give at least SOME food to the other birds. Since then, we have seen chickadees, house finches, song sparrows, wrens, and the occasional gold finch inside the cage as it was suddenly the only option available, proving they CAN in fact get in there.
All in all, everyone is happy and this grand experiment would have failed without this caged tube feeder. now that they are used to it, it's the only tube feeder out there and they use it readily. The starlings have lost interest after swapping out foods in the feeders that remain (no suet, cracked corn, unshelled nut or seed blends, millet, or invertebrates; stripped sunflower seeds instead of black oil sunflower seeds), and getting feeders they can't access for foods of that sort (this caged tube feeder and a wire mesh finch feeder the gold finches LOVE). As a bonus, the cowbirds now eat only what the smaller birds drop! We've had to sacrifice the fun of having the charismatic mocking birds and timid downy woodpeckers show up for meal worms and suet until we are sure the starling threat has passed. I think the starlings might have been karma against my original review. Jk.

It us solid and the space between the feeder and outside is just right
I think I should be entitled to a refund if nothing else.

I think I should be entitled to a refund if nothing else.
I was so tired of black birds cleaning out my feeder within a couple of days, not to mention they are complete a-holes to the smaller birds. Same goes for squirrels.
It only took a couple of days for the smaller birds to figure out how to enter the cage to get to feeding tube. Larger birds try but fail.
The Stokes bird feeder solved the problem with the larger birds and I am so happy. I placed the feeder on a staight pole and then applied Vaseline to the pole. It is quite entertaining to watch the squirrels and chipmunks try and climb the pole....cause they can't.
I did use over sized paperclips to keep the lid secured, just in case a squirrel does manage to get to the lid. I find them easier to take off then using key rings.
Very pleased and highly recommend!!
