This book, by far is one of the most informative & inspiring books ever written about the wonderful world of Voice Over! A deep well of invaluable information for both newbies & pros. Dave's blog has been a source of knowledge & inspiration for me for many years. It has helped me learn both the business & artistic facets of the Voice Over business, as well as helping my keep up with the myriad of new related technology. I was super excited when Dave announced his book release. I am not disappointed. Talk about "under promise...over deliver"! WOW! Thank you Dave!
Dave Courvoisier is a well-respected expert within the professional voice community, so it's no surprise that this book is a cut above the rest of the books out there on this topic. "More Than Just A Voice" encapsulates Dave Courvoisier's wealth of knowledge about how to get started and remain successful as a voice actor. Chapters are short (averaging 3 pages each) and conversational, making it an easy read. The 25-page Resources section at the end is a GOLD MINE for talent as well as producers, and worth the price of the book. The logical Table of Contents makes it easy to jump in on any topic. If you need an index, buy the Kindle version so that you can do Keyword searches. (The print version doesn't have an index.) Highly recommended!
A treasure trove of useful information for both the voice-over newbie and the seasoned professional. This book should be required reading for anyone in the industry. I've been reading Dave's blog & social networking posts for years, so to have the cumulative wisdom of all of those in one volume is INVALUABLE! Thanks Dave!
This new book is a goldmine of information and tips! If you're looking for an excellent resource for voice-over and voice acting, Dave Courvoisier's got you covered! Dave is a working voice actor, researcher, journalist, reporter, blogger, and television news anchor - a perfect combination for writing an excellent book about working in voice over. If you are new to the voice over field, Dave has advice, info and tips to propel your career forward. If you are a seasoned VO Pro, Dave's book is full of excellent resources, ideas, and techniques that are well worth the investment. This is more than just a voice over book - It is a wealth of information.
This is a great book packed with good advice and many good references. However I did not purchase the E-book and many of the references were links that I was unable to click since I'm reading the hard copy. Without the actual web address I had to manually search the web for many of the references. Would have been nice if the actual web addresses were included. That being said this book was a welcome addition to my VO library as it approached the business of VO from a different point of view and discusses topics not found in other books. I also enjoyed Dave's humor his take on many of the issues facing VO today.
Whether you are new to the voiceover business or an established working pro, the author really brings together all the necessary elements to succeed as a talent. It's not a step by step guide, but rather a solid explanation of what's required; it's up to the individual reader to interpret and apply the information in this book with their own flavor. Demos, business systems, ongoing professional development, marketing, finding a niche...it's all here. I HIGHLYrecommend this book to voiceover newbies and veterans alike!
Dave has worked tirelessly - harder than anyone I know - to understand the modern context that voice actors are living and working in. Much as he's shared this information in various online spots, and we might have saved all over various media - it's great to have all of those insights and hard work brought together in this book. Thanks Dave.
