Worked Great for a First Timer

I hadn't used a waterproof splice kit before, but I have to say that this was pretty easy. The four terminal connector was big enough for #8 stranded and the set screws in a brass tube provided a secure connection. After centering the shrink tube over the connector I used a heat gun on high setting and it took some heating time to shrink the pretty thick-wall tubing, but following the simple directions did the trick. Be sure to start heating in the middle, and around the entire connection, and work your way towards the ends AS IT SHRINKS. Don't be afraid to apply quite a bit of heat...at first I thought something was wrong because it took so much heat to even start to shrink, but once it started is shrank pretty fast. I was used to much smaller, lighter and thinner shrink tubing. As I worked to the ends, I noticed a bit of adhesive bubbling at the very ends of the tubing, which is good...means a positive water tight seal. It may be be quicker to use a torch with a flame spreader, but ultimately the heat gun set on high and a little patience worked fine.

I feel like I did all the right stuff... trimmed & connected the 2 sets of underground wires together on the brass splice block. The block and screws seemed quality. I coated it liberally with Black Liquid Electrical Tape (sold separately)
Slid the plastic sleeve in place, and hit it with the (Harbor Freight) heat gun. Heated it center to outside edges, then back & forth as the tubing shrunk around the splice - so far so good... Once the tubing shrunk down tightly, I concentrated the heat for another 10-15 minutes but never got the contents to melt & flow out the ends of the tube. At that point I couldn't check the tubing to see if there was ever anything "meltable" inside of it. I just coated the ends a few times with the Liquid Electrical Tape and called it a day. II'll never know if it didn't work until it doesn't work...

Lightning struck. Needed 3 repairs. Bought 3. Work great. As another reviewer once said, I trust the connection within the tube more than the rest of the wire.

My recommendation: after shrinking the heck out of the tube, wearing thick work gloves, squeeze it at each end to make sure the melted tube seals around. I have used around 8 of these repair my poor power cable going out to the shed over the years and 1 failed after 6 years (wasn't one of the ones I did and I think it wasn't heated/melted enough).

Shrinkage Issues “I WAS IN THE POOL!!”

I read other reviews about the tube not shrinkng enough. So when I ordered I prepared by buying smaller shrink tube and silicone. After shrinking the connector as small as I could, I siliconed the open ends. Once that dried (not pictured) I slid the smaller sleeves on and shrunk them. Once cooled I siliconed all those seams as well.

It’s a decent product but it should come with a stepped down heat shrink tube for the last few inches to make a tight seal.

Product worked very well I was able reconnect two severed wires for my well
pump. I made some contacts and found out this is what the well people use to fix
an underground connection. This save me at least a $130 service call plus labor and parts
connect the matching wires on each end heat the shrink wrap and bury it...if you are
"electrically inclined" know how to wire some things, like outlets and light switches this is easy

Not happy with 14 gauge wire

Not very happy with this. Pretty much total fail in 14 gauge wire. Screws bottom out before wire was tight and after I added 10 gauge peice to help fill the gap, the outer heat shrink would shrink enough to fully seal the wire and no sealant oozed at per direction. This was with torching it well beyond reason getting it so hot I was worried wire jacket would melt inside.

Works pretty well. It requires care in prepping the wires and patience with a heat gun on its high setting, starting from the center and working outward to each end in succession. I used liquid electrical tape before shrinking the sleeve and self-fusing tape afterward as additional precautions before direct burial. It is less durable than the original UF Romex if hit by a shovel, so if it will be in a landscaped bed, tuck it against the foundation or bury it deeper than you might otherwise.
