My Favorite Mortar and Pestle Recipe

“Guacamole”

Guacamole is a “superfood” avocado salad. Avocados have 20 different vitamins and minerals, rich in fiber and healthy fats. They are weight loss friendly, heart friendly and simply delicious!

Ingredients:

1 small ripe tomato
2 ripe avocados
½ clove minced garlic
2 tbs diced red onion
1 tbs fresh lime juice
2 tbs minced fresh cilantro

Add garlic, onion, lime juice and ½ tbs of sea salt into Laevo Cook mortar and mince it with the pestle. Then scoop out the avocado flesh and roughly mash. Add tomatoes and cilantro and mix with a spoon before serving. Eat right away or cover with silicone lid and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 hours. Enjoy!

BEFORE FIRST USE

Step 1: Season the mortar with white rice, grind until it turns into powder. This will allow to remove any granite dust and slightly polish the mortar.

Step 2: Remove the rice and add garlic, cumin, salt and pepper then grind. After that rinse with warm water and air dry. Avoid using soap as it may flavor the food.

NOTE: This product is made of natural stone and its color and structure may be uneven. White/beige color vertical or horizontal lines that may look visually like cracks are parts of natural stone and not a defect. If you gently rub the area with the finger and it is smooth then it's not a crack, otherwise you would feel unevenness or even sharpness of the edge of a crack.

I bought this just a few months ago and only used it 6 or 8 times.

As I was crushing a head of garlic it breaks into all the garlic... I was not hitting it hard to anything like that. I don’t understand how this happened. It’s a beautiful product and very heavy but it did not last at all.

Originally I bought the dark marble looking pestle and mortar. Big mistake. I read a few reviews that said it came repaired and not very well. I crossed my fingers and thought "I'm not going to get stuck with a repaired one I'm getting one brand new." Was I ever wrong! (You can read my review of the other one on the other mortar and pestle page.) When I got it it was totally repaired and not very well. It was about a 2 wide crack on the top of the mortar, (I also supplied pics) I was upset but returned the repaired one and ordered this one. More white and marble looking. This one was great. No pits, or cracks. Just one piece. I love that you can flip it over and use the smaller bowl for pills. I have an eye condition and now grind different herbs and mix it in a warm milk mixture. It works great. A little heavy but well made. I have a feeling Amazon is trying to sell the one I sent back as new. Careful if you buy that one. You've been warned. You'll probably get the one I sent back. I only feel bad I didn't write on the box. "Returned faulty repair"

I’m giving this product a ‘1’. It was not a complete order. The silicone lid was NOT included in the box.

I ordered it same day delivery, which was great because I needed a replacement to my mortar & pestle that I owned for over 15 years and I liked that this product is ‘flippable’.

But it’s sad that it is missing the silicone lid. How do I get this lid so my order is complete?

I use this set to pulverize pills because pill powder is easier to swallow after bariatric surgery than whole pills but it also works very well on peppercorns for the freshest pepper taste. It will mince your spices and other ingredients into a paste, handy if you can't have anything too solid to eat. Makes great guacamole and similar consistency spreads and condiments. Having two different bowl and masher shapes comes in more handy than I would have thought. The two pieces are solid stone and so far have not exhibited signs of absorbing colors or flavors. Washes easily under the tap. The two pieces are heavy and I suspect would crack, or would crack what they hit, if they were dropped.

I got this particular Unit because its dual purpose; it is a heavy all granite unit and I can't complain about the design;
One major flaw it has, it is not smooth inside, on either side, if you beat some liquid into cream like I do with creamed honey seed, this is not for that, I will have to get a glass or some other material that is smooth.
This unit can take care of chunks, pills, any herb stuff, but not liquid by any means, now that don't make it a bad product, just not intended for I mentioned above.

This mortar and pestle has since become the cornerstone to my cooking routine and I'll never go back. Ok..when I got my mortar and pestle ..while it did look very nice it had a small crack that extended quite a ways and it was also stained on and around this crack. Many people might not have cared about this but I DID CARE. I was very upset and Melanie (at the company) was very cordial and they went the extra mile to ensure that I was happy with the replace. AND it didn't take very long either. Now this is an example of taking something bad and turning it into a win. And the new mortar and pestle is a work of art! I think that cracking is a real problem with these items and I am sure they are aware of this..but it really turned out great..I am very happy with the new one! So if you get one that's damaged you'll be ok..they will take care of you! HH
