Their detailed descriptions of comprehension lessons across all grade levels and with teachers from many places help us see the universal truth of these core comprehension strategies. These powerful strategies are not just about reading, but are ways of thinking deeply that can impact learning in any content area in every school across our country and our world. Every person who looks to our children as the future should read this book.

During my credential program, I heard and read about think alouds and comprehension strategies, but didn't get to see those in practice in the classroom. I knew they were important, but didn't know how to implement them. This book offered practical advice (for multiple grade levels) that will help me begin to teach these strategies in the fall. The authors describe a clear structure for teaching comprehension, and offer real world narratives of teachers using the strategies. There was a lot to think about in this book, and I'm sure I'll be reading it again!

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down and finished it in less than a week. It is chock full of great reading teaching points and literature discussion starters. I definitely plan on using this book while planning this year. My husband laughed at me because I tabbed so many of the pages.
Excellent book on language arts for teachers.

This book is mesmerizing. I read it once, highlighting as I went. Then I reread it again a few months later, skimming my highlights and got more info and really totally different insight. It is a must read for teachers and will provide a great foundation as we head into the CCSS. I think this would be a great book to use in PLCs or book talks; it really isn't mean to be read alone. I had a lot of questions as I went and because I read it in the summer, my colleagues weren't around! It's deep, but what a thought-provoking and critical analysis of what we want in today's classroom.

I read mosaic of thought and loved the overall concept of it, and the way it explained what students needed in terms of comprehension. The book also explained various strategies to use with the students. The only part I wasn't so crazy over was that there were very few actual activities which I thought the book provided as well.
It's a terrific book for learning comprehension strategies

Ellin has once again put into words how we can make our classrooms more productive. The book is similiar to the first edition but includes more examples of how to implement. Easy to read and very well written.

As a literacy teacher, the ideas and strategies in this book work well with all ages of readers. I originally purchased the first edition 25 years ago and I was grateful to see a new edition. I highly reccomend this book for educators who want thoughtful, practical strategies to present.
