"30 years after the release of their debut album, ERASURE (Andy Bell and Vince Clarke) celebrate their incredible career and friendship with a 13 disc anthology box set charting their award-winning songwriting partnership. Mute / BMG are delighted to announce From Moscow To Mars – An Erasure Anthology. Curated by Vince and Andy it is a sumptuous box of memories of Erasure’s intergalactic journey through the pop and glitter and love that has defined their story so far. And theirs is a story that shows no signs of an ending, the band are currently in the studio working on a brand new album for 2017. The BRIT and Ivor Novello winning pop duo have released a staggering number of albums, including 5 UK Number 1’s and 17 top 10 singles (35 singles charted in the UK Top 40) and their recent best of, Always, saw the band entering the Top 10 album charts once again. From Moscow To Mars is a 13-disc box set that includes all of the band’s 50 singles, a CD from both Vince and Andy compiling their favourite tracks, CDs of remixes (from Martyn Ware, William Orbit, Little Boots, Youth, Shep Pettibone, Chris & Cosey, to name but a few), b-sides, live material and rarities PLUS a radio documentary about the band and the Wild! concert, available on DVD for the first time. The 12” rigid box also contains a hard-back book full of unseen photos, two 12” art cards, a postcard set and a book of stamps, as well as a “space passport”."

As soon as I opened the packaging and saw the box set, I was impressed by the quality and attention to detail. It really does feel as though you've purchased something pretty special. I was concerned that I was perhaps spending a considerable amount of money on tracks which I mostly already owned, but now realise that it is so much more than a repackaged greatest hits. The live tracks, remixes, long forgotten b-sides are wonderful, and have served to remind me just how good Erasure are at creating the perfect pop song.
I'm thrilled with my purchase, and would wholeheartedly recommend any Erasure fan to snap up a copy of this amazing collection before they disappear.
1. Inside the gatefold sleeves is a gold background with very pale white printing of the track list which are very difficult to read. The good news is the track selection is also listed on the back cover of each digi pack as well. The printing on the back covers are fine and easy to read.
2. With my copy, some of the discs are very difficult to pull out of the digi packs. I had so much trouble getting disc 1 (from the singles set) out of the package that the upper left hand corner of the digi pack now has a slight rip. It's a shame that the discs weren't supplied with inner sleeves to protect them. Perhaps they would have not only protected the discs, but maybe would have made it easier to pull the discs out of the digi packs. (Maybe this problem only exists with my copy and hopefully you won't have this situation.)
3. The 2 pockets that store the digi packs are too narrow and shallow. As a result the digi packs are crammed into the slots and are difficult to remove from the pockets. Also, the edges of the digi packs rub against the top and bottom parts of the pocket when you are pulling the covers out of the pockets. This is certain to eventually cause some damage to the top and bottom edges of the digi packs. (Again, maybe this is just with my copy. Hopefully you won't have this problem.)
I paid $150 for my box set which turned out to be an EU pressing. The manufacturers should have exercised better care into improving how this box set was put together. Having said that, musically this box set seems to be excellent and very comprehensive despite it's "second rate" construction. I recommend you DO buy the set if you are an Erasure fan. Hopefully the edition you receive will have better construction. I'd be interested in hearing from other people if they had the same problems as I did with their box set.
