I bought this in grey to protect the keys of my 2017 MBA. Not from liquid spills; this would only offer protection from light splashes, not a full spill. But from dust and crumbs.
The fit is really good, it lines up perfectly. It doesn’t touch or damage the screen when the laptop is closed. Typing is harder, you have to press the keys harder and it’s a matte, somewhat tacky finish on the keyboard cover. This means traveling around the keyboard takes some getting used to. My only gripe is that the MacBook keyboard backlighting is seriously encumbered by this cover. The cover is not transparent where the characters on each key are labeled, meaning the light doesn’t shine through. The only light you get is around each key. In a dim or dark area, it’s no good for seeing the keys.
I like having the cover. I like how super thin it is and the protection it offers. Typing with any keyboard cover requires some getting used to. I really wish the letters and number on each key were illuminated, that’s my only complaint.
I actually got the cover hoping it would mute some of the key clicking sounds. Doesn't do much for that. I don't think this would do much to protect against a significant spill unless one were extremely lucky. Since the edge is unsealed anything other than a mist or a few drops would simply pour over the edges. But it would mitigate the damage I suppose. Haven't tried any others so this might be the best there is, I couldn't say.
All being said, if all you want is something to keep your keyboard clean but not detrimental effect on your typing, this is way to go.
MacBook Pro 15", Mid-July '09 model. Also, it bubbles up a little on the right end of the space bar section. I just received
it today so maybe that will settle down onto the keys in time. It's not so bad it interfers with anything--just doesn't fit
like a glove like I'm used to. That all said, it's a lot less expensive than what I'd bought previously and got years of
use out of. It was worth what I'd paid but my MBP is almost 9 yrs old now and am planning to replace it soon
so this will be good enough for the interim. It's just getting dark in here now and the backlit keyboard is showing
light through and I can see the letters on the keys. It's not as bright as it is without this cover or with my old one,
but they are visible. I deducted one star for the differences between this keyboard cover and my old one, plus as
noted above. This one appears, so far, to work for me and I think it will stay in place...that's more important
than the differences for me.
FYI: I'd ordered two of these, wanting to see what the Peacock Green was like, thinking I could always switch back
& forth between the clear and the green for the money I'd saved buying this brand. The "clear" one I received was
labeled "clear" but is actually black everywhere this green one is green. It wasn't what I expected nor what I
wanted so I am returning it. Either it's mislabeled or I'd have to say their "clear" one is actually "black".
Note: if your cover does get stretched out, there are verified methods to shrink silicone via submersion in boiling water for 5-10 min. Give it a try before adding more garbage to the landfill!
My complaint is that the letters/numbers/symbols printed on the cover don't align well with the ones on my laptop so there's a double vision aspect when I look at my keyboard. Luckily I don't need to look at the keyboard as I type, but it is quite disorienting when I do glance down. The problem seems to be that the printed numbers/letters aren't in the middle of the keys as they should be, everything seems to be shifted slightly to the right compared to the original keys. In the future I will probably stick with a clear cover like the one I had before to avoid the problem of misaligned lettering altogether.
I also want to address a complaint I've seen in many of the other reviews. I'm a pretty fast typer and don't have any issues with the cover slowing me down as I type. I understand the feel of the keys being slightly different but I really don't see how having this slows down your speed.
