Mosquito Magnet Patriot Plus CO2 Mosquito Trap
Put an End to the Biting Insects in Your Yard
With the Mosquito Magnet Patriot Plus Mosquito Trap, you can tackle the mosquitoes and other biting insects that are plaguing your property. The Patriot Plus trap features a 50-foot power cord and sturdy base, allowing you to place the trap in the best location in your yard. To draw mosquitoes away from you and to it, the trap combines heat, moisture, CO2 and secondary attractants to lure mosquitoes. As they fly close to investigate opportunities for a blood meal, they’re sucked inside the trap where they dehydrate and die. Over time, the reduction of the local mosquito and biting insect populations allows you to enjoy your outdoor spaces again.
- Reclaim your favorite outdoor spaces
- Breaks insect breeding cycle
- Use in the yard, at your business property or outside a vacation home
Large, Rigid Catch Net
This self-contained rigid net is larger than ever to increase the performance of the Patriot Plus. It’s been specially engineered to maximize airflow, a critical component to the trap’s functionality. The net is easy to remove and replace, too. Change your net every 21 days.
Though the Mosquito Magnet mosquito trap is a sophisticated machine, it’s easy to assemble. In just three easy steps, your trap will be ready to begin operating. Once it’s turned on, the trap will begin targeting biting insects, and in 7 to 10 days you should see noticeable results.
Extra-Long Power Cord
The Mosquito Magnet Patriot Plus has a power cord for reliable, continuous operation. The 50-foot long cord allows you to place your mosquito trap in an ideal location on your property. Lawn clips are included to help reduce potential hazardous situations that could be caused by an unsecured cord.
Sturdy, Non-Tipping Base
When fully assembled, the Patriot Plus sits atop a sturdy, non-tipping base that also holds your propane tank. This broad base anchors your Mosquito Magnet mosquito trap in place to stop it from tipping over during extreme weather, while you’re swapping propane tanks or performing other maintenance duties.
Why Do Mosquitoes Bite?
Only female mosquitoes seek out a blood meal, which is used to develop eggs. Once they have sufficient protein, they seek stagnant water, where they deposit their fertilized eggs. A few days later, the eggs hatch and a new generation of mosquitoes emerge.

The Mosquito Magnet Patriot Plus is easy to use. Just plug it in, push the button, relax and enjoy your yard! The provided 50-foot, 12V power cord allows placement away from the family area yet near the mosquitoes' breeding and resting areas. Lawn clips are provided to help secure the power cord. Through proper placement upwind, the biting insects will be drawn to the trap, thereby reducing the chances of you becoming their target. The heavy-duty plastic and marine grade metals make it ideal for harsh environments. The enhanced Mosquito Magnet Patriot Plus has been designed for the homeowner who needs to protect up to a 1 acre area. For optimal results, run your trap 24 hours a day in order to break the mosquitoes' breeding cycle. Your trap will begin working immediately with noticeable results in 7-10 days. Allow 4 weeks to see significant results. As with the other Mosquito Magnet traps, the Patriot Plus uses our patented CounterFlow Technology. This technology allows the trap to emit a precise plume of CO2, heat, and moisture that attracts the biting insects to the trap, while simultaneously vacuuming them into a net where they dehydrate and die within 24 hours. The Mosquito Magnet mimics a large mammal by emitting a plume of carbon dioxide, heat and moisture, which when combined with an additional attractant, Octenol or Lurex3, becomes irresistible to mosquitoes, no-see-ums, biting midges, black flies and more. By using one of these approved Mosquito Magnet attractants, you will be able to increase your catch rate up to 10X.

Without further ado, here are my essential time and money-saving hacks I've picked up from owning these machines. Mosquito Magnet Hack #1: These units have sophisticated electronic components and self-diagnostics that can be a little on the temperamental side. It's best for initial startup to for it to be warm - or you need to help help it get warm. My first Mosquito Magnet (a different model than this one) didn't want to start up and keep going. As another reviewer of this model said - the LED embedded in the on switch would blink for awhile but wouldn't go steady to indicate that it's fully up and running. I felt frustrated following the directions because I would repeatedly go check it every 15 minutes and it would be off and I was quickly depleting my finite supply of CO2 cartridges trying to purge the system and get it going. I was frankly ready to return the unit but talked to a friend whose had these things for years and passed on the helpful tips and tricks that I'm now sharing with you. These units are sensitive to cooler temperatures and when it's cooler (I know "cooler" is relative - but I'm talking less than 50 degrees), Mosquito Magnets have a hard time starting up. To overcome this just drape a jacket over the whole unit but especially cover the intake. A relatively warm jacket adds insulation to hold in some heat coming from the unit's exhaust and help the unit to get going just fine. You could also start the unit up in a heated garage but since it emits carbon monoxide, I don't recommend that. Plus it would make for a rather embarrassing method of doing yourself in. Though perhaps not as bad as the two college guys I read who died of asphyxiation after losing consciousness INSIDE a gigantic helium balloon that was advertising apartments for rent. It was all fun and laughs and high pitch voices until they succumbed to no oxygen. That struck close to home because it's exactly what I would have done in my college days. But I digress... I'm happy to report that there was no need to use a jacket or more importantly risk carbon monoxide poisoning because this unit started up just fine and within 10 minutes the LED indicator was solid meaning it was warmed up and running without risk of the burner tripping off prematurely. I didn't even have to restart it once or purge the unit with CO2.
Mosquito Magnet Hack#2 - propane management. A propane tank should last you 21 days. But tell Siri to remind you in 20 days to change your tank. You can let the tank run empty if you prefer but I find giving up fifty cents worth of fuel is worth it versus running the tank empty and perhaps having to do the whole CO2 purge on the machine. It's better to ensure you change the tank while there's still some in there and the machine keeps running steady. When you change the tank, open the knob s-l-o-w-l-y, as it reduces the chances that the machine will get a hiccup or burp and then you're into the whole CO2 purging nonsense. Which isn't a big deal - but why use those CO2 cartridges on this machine when you could save them for something better - like a paintball gun or those cool jackets that have a CO2 adapter to instantly inflate the jacket in water. Oh and when Siri reminds you to change the tank, replace the mosquito attractant at the same time. Octenol makes a big difference in attracting these but keep it running even if you run out because the carbon dioxide the machine emits will call them even if the Octenol has worn off.
Mosquito Magnet Hack #3 - Nothing but net (aka size does matter). This unit has to have the biggest net of any of the mosquito magnets. It's 3 times the size of net versus other units. I mean it's literally a Taj Mahal of mosquito mansions. So what do you do when it's full? Well if you read the manufacturer's claims, the mosquitos are supposed to dry out and die. Maybe that works somewhere but I'm in Alaska and those mosquitos do NOT want to go gentle into that good night. Sure some always die tons of them burn and rave at close of day - nay they even rage, rage against the dying of the light. One vendor who sold Mosquito Magnet supplies suggested I have a second net to swap out and submerge the full one in water to drown them. I tried that once but these water-born beasts live a remarkably long time under water and as soon as they come out of the water they get their second wind and suddenly re-animate and take flight. The better alternative is to recognize these guys have rather fragile wings. So just shake the net vigorously several times -- all the mosquitos crash together and their wings get destroyed and they can't fly anymore. You can simply empty it onto the ground and stamp the life out of any of the strong that remain. Or I've also found it somewhat satisfying to empty it into the backyard fire.
Mosquito Magnet Hack #4 - What to do if it dies. These units have a one-year warranty. I'd be really frustrated if it were to quit after one year but with proper maintenance you should get a few years out of it easily. When you amortize the up-front investment of these units over several years, they're well worth the cost of significantly reduced mosquito populations (only female mosquitos bite because they need extra protein from blood for their eggs). BUT if your unit kicks out after the warranty is up - check around to see if there's someone in your area that services the units. Where I live someone has made a business of servicing these units and they offer a flat fee for service and repair to fix whatever tends to go wrong with these machines after a few years - and it's significantly cheaper than buying a whole new machine.
Mosquito Magnet Hack #5 - back in black. Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors. The machine itself is dark green which helps, but the propane tanks are usually white. I cover my tank with a section of an old trampoline net -- but you could use a large garbage bag and that would be just about as effective.
To sum it up, buy one of these units - you're likely to get years of reliable service and more importantly enjoy your backyard a lot more through significantly diminished mosquito populations. In my opinion, units advertised as protecting a whole acre do not perform significantly different from ones advertised as protecting a 1/2 acre (or at least significantly better to justify the increased price),
If you choose this unit, you'll be happy with your choice and if you use my hints and hacks, I think you'll thank me later!
Well, it works so well that I now own 4 of these!! All 4 are running 24/7 simultaneously (there is hardly any sound except for a slight fan noise, quieter than the cooling fan on a computer) at different spots in my yard and have been meaning to write a review simply because of the incredible difference they have made in being able to be outside and enjoy our yard, the lake, or the property in general. I am posting 2 pictures that include 60 days worth of my 'catch'. They include mainly mosquitos and noseeums but also some nasty and aggressive deer flies. It's just plain disgusting to see how many of these things there are out there waiting to bite you.
I rated it 5 stars because it does exactly what it says it will do. Do we still have biting bugs coming around? Yes, but far fewer as you can imagine from the pictures I posted. My only complaints would be the light as I described earlier and wishing it had a more powerful vacuum fan to get the larger deer flies.
If you are debating getting this just do it- you will not be sorry. Also, make sure you have an extra catch basket or 2 to swap out as some of the bugs are still alive when it's full and need to be left to dessicate in the basket until it's ok to empty.
The Bad- It stopped working on the SECOND tank of propane with a "thermistor fault". About 30-40 days since running it, outside the Amazon return window.
Mosquito Magnet Company- get your hardware problems sorted out! You have a product that works, WHEN IT WILL RUN... which it doesn't seem to do very well.
A big "Sheesh!" for this thing failing so quickly.
(And I was not abusing it. I found a nice shady spot, followed instructions, performed maintenance at the tank change, etc.)
The phone support line had me on hold for a long time and I hung up. They have a recorded "we appreciate you patience, thank you for holding" that seems to run every 10 seconds. If you're going to be on hold for over a half an hour, it would be nice to not hear that constantly. One of the voice recordings has machinery noises at the start in the background that gets your hopes up like it's a real person about to talk, and then dashes them. Going to try email. We'll see how it goes.
Also, I had plenty of time to read their literature while on hold. Their warranty is limited warranty for one year from purchase date if you register your product with them. I'd recommend you read it before purchase like I didn't (I assumed they were well made... woops.) You can read it on their site, it's actually pretty short and to the point.
Email submission response:
"Thank you for your inquiry. We will respond within 2 business days. "
From their support site:
If there is a Thermistor Fault, please call technical support at 800-953-5737 or email us for repair instructions. Instead of returning to the store and still having the mosquitoes ruining your outdoor plans, we will send you pre-paid UPS Shipping labels and will have the trap back to you in less than 1 week! We'll fix it fast and accurate so you can take care of those mosquitoes!
I'd like to point out that Amazon would probably have this sorted out via replacement in a much shorter period of time (as short as a day) if you are in the return window. It's almost a public health issue to tell anyone to use a slower method of maintaining mosquito control.
Update 3- I got a reply to my email ONE MONTH later. A much faster response was a damage control comment here on the site from their PR staff. I'm lowering my score to 1 star. I suggest the Blue Rhino SV3100 SkeeterVac Mosquito Eliminator, 1-Acre Coverage at this point. It has survived much longer. (Secret trick-)You can stick a mosquito magnet lurex cartridge in the catch basket and you'll get similar results as the mosquito magnet.
Dear Mosquito Magnet Company- It's unfortunate that you can't take a working concept and make it a working product that lasts longer than a month before failing permanently. I'm not buying again from you till I see signs you've got your act together. Crappy hardware and support gives you 1 star in my book. Good day. I don't recommend anyone do business with you.
I'm lowering my score to 1 star
