Product Description

Sphagnum moss is long fibered, fluffy and clean. One of nature's most valuable gifts to gardeners. Absorbs and retains up to twenty times its weight in water, twice as much as a cellulose sponge. Invaluable for soilless gardening, transplanting, mulch and hanging basket filler. For soil mixes, it offers excellent root aeration. Also used for rooting bulbs, cuttings and swamp gardens. Long fibered sphagnum moss is not peat moss, but rather a perennial plant that grows wild in the central wisconsin sphagnum bogs. Mosser Lee's sphagnum is a renewable resource growing back in the same bogs every 5-7 years, so using mosser lee's long-fibered sphagnum does not destroy our precious wet lands. Available in 2-cubic feet size.

I am the author of "The Sphagnum Moss Bonsai Handbook, An Illustrated Handbook" and am very familiar with sphagnum moss. This stuff is old and in horrible condition. It has become very difficult to get large quantities of sphagnum moss lately, but this stuff is not worth the cost or the effort for sub par material.

I bought this to use for orchids and other plants. Couldn't use it at all. It's basically hay. Total waste of money.

Definitely not for Carniverous Plants. This Sphagnum has lots of grass and twigs in it which may work well for cactus as is described. CPs cannot have any nutrition in their soil. I discovered the hard way that the only sphagnum for CPs is the expensive stuff from New Zealand.

Looking foe sheet moss, will use this in another application, ordered the sheet moss else where. Didn't feel that it was worth sending back.
