Mia Sheridan's writing will wrap you in a roll coaster of emotions. While reading this book I felt a constant tug in my heart. I was deeply immersed in the story. This book has all the elements to make it perfect.
The heroine is a broken woman but at the same time strong. Ellie is a lost soul trying to find something precious through all the bad. Her life hasn't been easy. She craves love. She thinks she doesn't deserve good things. She feels abandoned. Men have taken from her but they never give her the one thing she wants the most.
During her life she has been used like a doll; a pretty doll which can be disposed at anytime, a worthless toy to be played. She works in a place where men see her as a sexual object. She does not belong there but she has not many options until she receive an unusual proposal from an angel.
Gabriel Dalton is a handsome broken angel. He can’t stand the closeness of any woman because of his past. He has reached a point in his life where he wants to start a relationship. Willing to heal he will seek help in the less fortunate place. In a place of temptation, he will find the right girl who will help him to heal; not knowing that at the same time Ellie will heal her own wounds too.
Their “relationship” started as a business but the attraction will pull them together. Ellie and Gabriel are a match made in heaven. They both are broken. They are damaged soul mates who will heal together. Their scars made them peculiarly perfect for each other.
Fate will play with them. They will discover their true feelings but some people around them will see their interaction as improper because they are from different worlds. Both are damage in a different level. Ellie is a master in hiding her true colours and Gabriel is a master in staying away. She hides and he wants to find her. Ellie despises herself and believes that she is not enough for a man like Gabriel. She thinks he deserves better. Gabriel will have to work hard to make Ellie believe that they are meant to be together. He will follow his heart directions.
Gabriel Dalton has stolen my heart. He is a perfect knight in shining armour every woman would love to have. He is an artist who can create beauty with his hands. Let him be your next book boyfriend.
This book is phenomenal and brilliant, a must read! It is sweet and addictive. It left me wanting more. This is one of the best books of 2017. Mia has delivered a soulful love story. There are not enough stars for this book. Let’s start with millions...
I'm going to start with the good and what I loved. As always, I loved that Mia gave us a fresh story with unique characters. It's one of the reasons why she has a forever fan in me. Instead of giving us rehashed tropes, she gives us the same tropes, but somehow makes them feel new, and I absolutely adore her ability to do that. I loved Gabe. I loved his tenderness and sweetness, and I loved that he wasn't all alpha which seems to be the norm in most romances these days. I'm here to say that while I love a good alpha male, I love heroes like Gabe so much more, so please, never stop giving us heroes like him. I loved his strong and protective nature, and how much he wanted to help Ellie. And of course, I loved Mia's writing. She truly has a way with words and her lyrical and meaningful prose is what tends to stay with me long after I finish one of her stories. Some stories you pick up and put down and forget what happens a couple days later. Mia's words are the kind that linger in your soul and is what keeps me coming back for more and more.
Now on to the things that bothered me.
The love story between Gabe and Ellie is beautiful, both of them have suffered through a life that has been harsh and not at all fair. I hurt for them, but even their backstories I felt were a little lacking compared to Mia's other works. I didn't want all the gruesome details, but I just wanted more. I wanted to know more about Gabe's time while he was in captivity, and I wanted to know more about what Ellie went through while growing up. Again, I didn't need all the details, but a little more insight would have aided in completely rounding out their characters. One of the things that always stands out for me in Mia's stories is the way she develops her characters, and for me, that was most lacking here. I wanted to be able to connect and relate to them more than I did.
Secondly, the love scenes. What happened to the beautiful tension and chemistry and the culmination of love that I am so used to experiencing between the characters? There was still loads of beautiful tension and chemistry in this story, but when it came time for that love to unfold on the pages, it fell flat. Really flat. I felt like they were faded to black and glossed over and that for me was a huge disappointment. I understand you can still have a heartwarming and touching love story without detailed sex, and yes, this story was still heartwarming and touching, but when I read a book and I go on a journey, I want to be able to feel every aspect of that journey. I wanted to experience it even more in this story because of Gabe's past and why he even first comes to the club seeking help from Crystal/Ellie. I wanted to feel and experience their love. I was waiting for that explosive moment, all the feels I normally get when reading Mia's stories and it just didn't happen. I don't know if this was more of a request on the publishers side to gloss over these things to appeal to a broader range of readers or what, but it just wasn't what I'd come to expect in Mia's writing. I hope to once again see these beautiful intimate scenes in her future stories, because a love story is just a love story without them, and I'm so used to Mia delivering nothing short but epic.
Overall, I enjoyed this story, but out of all of Mia's stories—and I have read, devoured, and loved every single one of them—this one missed the mark for me. I'm sad to say that because this was her first traditionally published book and I was so excited for her and to read it, but it was definitely missing things that I hope to find once again in her future works.
