I really liked Leila's character. She was smart and tough in a way that made you empathize with her as much as you admired her. I liked her thought processes during her scenes with Wes. The chemistry between them was absolutely electric. I turned the page eagerly and not one moment between them was wasted space. That's why it was so confusing when Leila agreed to go off with Stefan. That made no sense to me because Stefan not only had his own issues with Wes but the engagement between him and Leila seemed one-sided. It's easy to see why Wes is the man of the hour. There is something powerful, mysterious and intriguing about him and he could have really met his match with Leila had the author chosen to pursue that narrative. The whole Stefan diversion seemed unfortunate, especially since I found him to be uncouth and a bit of a sexual opportunist.
Still, the author managed to completely hook me with Leila and Wes' characters and I firmly dig in my heels and insist that there be a sequel lol. The skill with which tension and character exploration were woven into the storyline impressed me but I think mismatching the couples in this story threw me off quite a bit. Perhaps more backstory would have helped? Leila's sudden deep longing and love for Stefan rang hollow and seemed inexplicable. I do recommend the book because everyone should experience the fire that is Wes - I do so with the proviso that the ending probably will leave you scratching your head.
It's name is right. It is pretty much about a hotel room hookup. I didn't get any taste of real romance. I was confused about what guy the author intended her to be with. In the blurb telling about the book, the guy mentioned hardly shows up at all in the story except for the actual hotel room hookup. I never got to know him as a character. I barely got to know the female in the character. And that is being kind - I read this within the last 24 hours and don't remember her name. I doubt the guys in the book do either - including the one that got her in the end. They never had a chance to really bond with her, and quite frankly didn't seem all that interested in doing so.
The I rarely give out two star reviews, because usually I go into a review with the mindset of trying to help the author. But the book is just too short. To forgettable. To bland. Even the one sex scene in the book was yawn-worthy. It wasn't a BAD book. It just wasn't a good one. This book needs to be longer - especially if it is being billed as a novel. There needs to be more character interaction, more character buildup, more character progression.
Unless the author really just wanted a motel hookup. In which case I am simply left bored.
It is not the genre that I read.
However, I found it short, entertaining, and well written.
I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
The next chapter is from Stefan’s point of view. He’s surrounded by boastful pals who are on the make. Fortunately, he, himself, seems made of better material.
Complications arise. And then… well, that would be giving it away now, wouldn’t it.
While I wish the ending had been a little more decisive, overall this was a well done short read. I could picture the characters and also enjoyed the chapters switching between Leila and Stefan so we got to hear it from both sides.
Stefan is a hot billionaire hanging with his friends in a club. Stefan and Leila have a brief meeting, before his friends pull him away. While Stefan's friends are getting drunk he is watching Leila!
Will Stefan and Leila hook up? Will Wes get her first? If you need answers to these questions go get this book.
