"The vision and cleverness of Higgins and his delightful illustrations have produced an outrageously funny picture book that will make even the grumpiest readers laugh." -- Indie Kids' Next List (Top 10 Selection)
* "Laugh-out-loud funny story...In Ryan T. Higgins's extraordinary illustrations, the dark purple bear with his perpetually furrowed brow contrasts delightfully with the cute yellow goslings who crawl and tumble all over him...Mother Bruce never cracks a smile as he dutifully raises his new family, but young readers won't be able to hold back." -- Shelf Awareness, starred review
"Higgins turns classic picture-book scenarios upside down, then wrings them for contemporary laughs." -- The New York Times
"Readers will no doubt start giggling as they see Bruce push his shopping cart through the forest...hilarity ensues...Comic illustrations range from full-page paintings to spot illustrations and panels that combine to show Bruce's schemes to rid himself of the geese, culminating in a silly but sweet conclusion. This case of mistaken identity will lend itself to a fun-filled storytime." --Booklist --This text refers to the hardcover edition.

Please note that if the price here on Amazon is still exorbitant, the Scholastic books website recently had the paperback for about $5; I found like-new hardcover copies at 2nd and Charles for $7.
This is combined with fun characters that parents and kids can love, and a nice sense of humor that can be appreciated by all ages. This book is a pleasure to read at bedtime. It's a fun little story of a grumpy bear who unexpectedly becomes responsible for a flock of geese. We have one other of Higgins books (my personal favorite 'Be Quiet!') so I bought this one as an Easter present for my kids. I plan on buying more from Higgins and seeing how the character develop along their adventures. My children are 5, 4, and 2 1/2 years old and love this author, but even myself and my husband chuckle and enjoy reading this book.
The Illustrations alone deserve their own exhibit. The attention to detail will reveal something you hadn't seen each time you read it. The story creatively illustrates the follies of animal behavior and evolutionary biology that befall a bear and his dinner. Hilarity ensues and you laugh as you and your children learn how this bear solves problems.
This will likely be your child's new favorite bedtime story. So much laughter they'll be ready to hibernate when it's over, seriously!
My wife and I like this book so much we've bought several additional copies as gifts for our friends to read with their children this Christmas.
Do not miss this wonderful literary adventure!
I plan to buy several copies for Christmas gifts.

Ogni mattina "dobbiamo" giocare che io sono Bruce e lui una delle paperette...
My older brothers name is Bruce and my niece his granddaughter is named Hazel. We used to call him Mother Bruce when we were young adults.
Looking forward to hear how she likes the books.
Have fun, be safe.
