Now this is a book written by a true dyed-in-the-wool journalist. He presents all the FACTS, even if there happen to be ones that are unpleasant and do not demonize Mother as much as she deserves to be. He makes his positions known, but does not ever approach things like statistical comparisons with confirmation bias. The amount of meticulous interviewing, collecting of detailed facts, and organization of such is impressive and all for our benefit. You will close this book much wiser and appreciative for knowing the truth behind this wretched con-artist.
If you didn't like Mother Teresa: The Missionary Position by Christopher Hitchens because it seemed too much of an outright assault on her character, you will enjoy this. If you found Hitch's pamphlet lacking (merely about the company she keeps and who she took money from), this will fully enlighten you on her behavior, thought pattern, ambitions and the incredible publicist she was.
I would recommend this for everyone: those who know Agnes Bojaxhiu, and those who think they do.

About the Author
Dr Aroup Chatterjee was born and brought up in Calcutta. He now lives and works (as a physician) in London. He was, if anything, positively inclined towards Mother Teresa while he was living in Calcutta, though he knew little about her. Upon coming to the West he was appalled at the Teresan mythology and at the gruesome image that his home-city had in the world. he has done research on Mother Teresa for over twenty-five years and can be called the world's foremost authority on the late nun. He has appeared numerous times on BBC and other world media to discuss the subject. He is married and has three children.

Great book. Provides the unvarnished and unbiased truth surrounding the myth that is Teresa. These myths were provided both by Teresa and the people using her for their twisted agendas. Gee, what else is new?

This is a book about Mother Theresa and the Missionaries of Charity in India written by a man who grew up in Calcutta and now lives in the UK. What precipitated this book was how shocked he was by the image Westerners have of Calcutta and of Mother Theresa. According to the author, Calcutta is a thriving Indian city who has lost billions of tourism dollars due to the image Mother Theresa promoted of people by the thousands dying in the streets. He also states numerous examples of her organization being less than charitable.

Few know what Mother Teresa and her order of nuns have been up to over the years and the Church would have people believe it's all good, charitable work. However, it's far from the truth when the truth of her organization is allowed to come forth into the light. From Christopher Hitchens to Mary Johnson, first-hand accounts of the evil nature of what has happened come to light quickly and those who have an open mind to look into it further will find that she was far from "saintly" during her life.

Fantastic book! As Chatterjee says, even I never saw a Missionary of Charity worker anywhere in Calcutta in 4 years and certainly they were never to be even heard of during disasters. Never saw them do any social work. The first responders were always Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevashram Sangh and the RSS. But, as they have no backing from the Vatican, no one knows of them!

A must read book

Excellent work put on this book. Unmasking the charlatan that the west and chatholic church imposed on the east through the media and its tools.
A charlatan that you find her pictured image in every corner of Albania, a woman that was born in North Macedonia in the Ottoman area, whom never new a single albanian word, never wore an albanian tradition clothe, never acted as an Albanian and never wished to be buried in Albania but, her image is pumped as the hero of the nation. The media nowdays can portray you from a satan to a saint if you buy them, and she did, was a manipulative old woman.

Content is good but the actual book is a fake copy
Reviewed in India on November 21, 2018Verified Purchase
Ok, just to be clear..the 4 star rating is for the content. The physical book is actually a fake copy. The sentences are slanting and I have a page that simply came out into my hand as I was turning over. Dear Amazon, if I had to buy a fake copy then I would have got it even cheaper in the Fort area (I can give you the exact location if you like). Please don't provide such inferior quality for the sake of discounts. Also it would be great if we have the option of providing separate ratings for the content and actual book. I gave a 4 because this is a wonderful book and I don't want people to think otherwise because of the quality you provided. Thanks.

Angry rant doesn't do author's case justice.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 31, 2017Verified Purchase
While I have grave reservations about Mother Teresa and was not in any way convinced about her supposed work with the poor, this book does not do the author or his thesis any great service. The book Is at it's best when it quotes people who worked with her organisation in Calcutta. Apart from this despite the clearly evident extensive research, the book comes across as a long angry rant at not just Mother Teresa but a host of others, including, anyone who (in the author's opinion) besmirched the good name of Calcutta, the Nobel prize committee, anyone who ever praised Teresa and even including Indian people who held her (for whatever reason) in high esteem. He castigated her over and over again for her views on contraception and abortion but she was a catholic nun - what else was she going to say. There is a lot of worthwhile information here but the vitriol in the author's prose means that without checking each fact independently, a doubt creeps into the reader's mind as to their veracity. All in all, not well written.

Interesting & Informative
Reviewed in India on September 25, 2017Verified Purchase
It's an excellent eye-opening book. If you have questions about the authenticity of the contents then let me inform you that the author has been researching on "Mother" Teresa for 25 years. The book will make you challenge everything you believed to be true about Teresa. It also made me question the credibility of our Education system based on the lies that we are being fed in schools.

An excellent book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 9, 2017Verified Purchase
A well-researched and excellently written book that exposes the monster and charlatan that was Mother Teresa. Chatterjee plots the rise of the myth, shines light on the truth, and conclusively shows how she did far more harm than good.
