Wow, I have had this book sitting in my Kindle for a few months before I started reading it because I have a problem... if I like a book and it pulls me in, I can't stop reading it. (Which is sometimes a problem since I have kids, a job, other responsibilities, etc...) So, I finally opened this book up two days ago, and had to finish it last night because it was too exciting to put down.

The book is great. You get the feeling in the first 25 pages of the book what's going on, and how the mystery might be solved. And yet, you are confused, there aren't enough pieces in the puzzle yet, so you're not sure. This goes on right up until the last 50 pages or so when things finally come to a head.

The character development is great. I am really looking forward to the next book starring Danny Tobin, as he is presented as a compelling, yet troubled figure. And it was nice to hear about some areas in Virginia I know, some areas in Massachusetts I've visited, and of course a little bit of security and hacking here and there which is always appealing to me.

Bottom line is, get this book and read it. It's entertaining, exciting, and will be hard to put down.

I must recuse myself as we know Dennis Fisher as the former college roommate of our son. That caveat is necessary as I was a little hesitant to read it at my sons request - Wow, was I ever surprised. This book is non-stop action, grabbed both my husband and I from the getgo while we were travelling in Costa Rica and we both found ourselves grabbing for it every quiet moment we had. Dennis has really nailed the ability to hook you in chapter 1 and keep you riveted to the end. He threw in quite a few unexpected twists which just made us all the more eager to continue reading, including the denouement. We can't wait for his next book to come out - way to go Dennis!

What a great read. Dennis does a good job building the plot and narrative, and the characters don't try to be so complex that you get lost. The book starts fast, keeps going, and never really loses the pace. Kind of reminds me of the "Parker" series - there's crime, there's some ugliness, there's some folks you like and root for (good OR bad), and before you know it, the book's over. Need a good book for the beach this summer? I can't recommend it enough.

I really enjoyed this book, despite the fact that it is quite violent in places. The plot was fast moving, intricate, and made sense in the end and the character development was superb. I'm looking forward to the next book from this author--which his website promises will include the main characters from Motherless Children. I won't be more specific, so as to not spoil the plot of the current book.

Read this between two different flights earlier this week. Totally absorbing book of the old fashioned murder mystery genre. Solidly written, great plot, some good twists, and doesn't get hung up on any technology that Dennis Fisher is known for writing about at his "day job".

Strongly recommend this book.

Motherless Children is a great read with strong characters, great environments, and a well constructed, taunt, plot. The characters are well differentiated and feel like real people with real motivations. The author avoids the usual cardboard cutouts so common in crime thrillers and the dialog sounds like it comes from the mouths of real people. It started a little slow, but quickly finds its pace and accelerates cleanly to the end.

I especially enjoyed the development of the main character. It wasn't the direction I expected at the start, and his motivations and evolution really play quite well. To be honest it's really refreshing to see one of these cop characters actually develop and change in response to the events around him. Most crime thrillers seem to do a big reset at the end for the next sequel.

The author also clearly understands technology and integrates it seamlessly into the story. This isn't one of those stories with a magic hacker using mystical skills- everything makes sense and actually aligns with the story instead of distracting it.

This is a solid crime thriller. Better character development, plotting, and details than most publisher-backed novels. It's very much worth your time, and I even bought a second paperback version to hand off to a family member.

... even though the story opens with an EMT running the air medical helicopter (sorry, the former paramedic in me couldn't let this go on the off chance the author reads this)...

I read lots of fiction, but not much of it is fast-paced, hardboiled crime stuff. I am more of a literary fiction type, leaning toward T.C. Boyle, Milan Kundera, David Mitchell, and the like. Boy was it fun to read this book!

I venture to say if you are a fan of fast-paced thrillers, you'll totally dig this book. It is snappily written with a clear, consistent (if not quirky) voice. And it's a page turner for sure.

As a computer security guy, I particularly enjoyed all of the references to various inside jokes and knowledge. I'm sure that avid runners will feel the same about the running content.

Buy this book and read it at the beach.
