"[An] endearing romance . . . By making a space for determined women inside the Amish community and providing a satisfying conclusion to various familial hurts, Hubbard provides readers with a comforting tale of love and forgiveness." ---Publishers Weekly --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.
About the Author
Drawing upon her experiences in Jamesport, the largest Old Order Amish community west of the Mississippi, longtime Missourian Charlotte Hubbard writes of simpler times and a faith-based lifestyle. Charlotte considers it her personal mission to feed people—to share hearth and home. Faith and family, farming and food preservation are hallmarks of her lifestyle—and the foundation of all her Amish romance series. She’s a deacon, a dedicated church musician, and a choir member. When she’s not writing, she loves to try new recipes, crochet, and sew. Charlotte now lives in Minnesota with her husband and their border collie.

“A Mother’s Love” is such a good book that I almost read it in one sitting and probably would have if I didn’t have to work the next day! At first I didn’t think I would like this book because the beginning was quite sad but I became so involved in Rose’s story that I ended up loving it. Rose’s story – and that of her birth mother – is quite compelling and since this is an Amish romance, the reason her mother gave her up as a baby is quite believable and sad. Rose is a strong character, who fights to rebuild her life even if she has to go against the advice of her Bishop. Rose’s daughter Grace is very cute and a nice light-hearted note in the novel. Matthias is also a compelling character and the romance between he and Rose is very sweet. Mixed in with the romance is the story of Rose’s birth mother – this is a very moving plot-line and I love what author Charlotte Hubbard did with this. Often in Amish romances there is talk of God’s will but never have I seen it dealt with so well as it is in this book – everything that happens in this book happens for a purpose – so well done by Hubbard.
“A Mother’s Love” is an enjoyable Amish Romance.
I have two reservations about this book that keep this review from being a rave. The characters seem to have far more than their share of drama and catastrophes, even for an agricultural community. I could have done with one less gruesome death. Also, Gracie is just a little too much and her dialogue got in the way of my enjoyment of the book. I found the character kind of irritating and looked forward to chapters where she was less of the focus.
All in all, a well crafted inspiring read with an overall lesson that we can forgive and have compassion for the circumstances of others.
