REASONS FOR CHOOSING THIS PRODUCT: The two major reasons were first that the kit contains a fairly large container of restoration product compare to the other brands. I was turned off by some of the brands that stated if you have extra large headlamps you might need two kits. That could cost over fifty bucks and it would still only do two headlamps. On the day I did my restoration I did the two large headlamp lenses on my 4-Runner, the fog light lenses, the headlamp lenses on a friend's van and the headlamp lenses on a friend's pickup truck (pictured above) and tail light lenses and still had at least a half bottle of product left. The other reason was the simplicity of the Mother's kit ... for most headlamp lenses you just put a nickel-sized amount of product on the special applicator which is mounted to your electric drill and spin. After you polish the lenses you rub the residue off (the same as you would do if you were waxing your car) and you're finished. If your lenses are in really bad shape you have the optional choice of using two special sponge/abrasive pads that each have two surfaces. I chose to do that on the van, which was the oldest vehicle, and it was easy to do and improved the restoration quite a bit.Read more ›
The kit says it normally only needs the powerball and included polish but in extreme cases it instructs you to use the included abrasive sponge pads (wet). They have 4 grades of abrasives and you work through them from 1 to 4 and then use the powerball and polish again.
Although it did not get the lens crystal clear it was an enormous improvement and I plan on doing a re-do which I suspect will complete the job, or nearly so. When sanding with the pads it's a bit hard to tell how much you have sanded off and I think practice would help - but how often do most people end up doing this?
The pads could be a bit larger but they were far better than the other brand I had tried before.
I would recommend this product to anyone with clouded plastic headlights.
Compared to a DIY where I attempted to purchase sheets of very fine sandpaper (like 2000 grit - this stuff is hard to find), the kit is less expensive, MUCH faster and easier to use, and it works a lot better. I'll probably never know if there are better kits, because this one was a great value and it does all I need. The polish is supposed to have UV inhibitors and help preserve lenses, so I 'touch' up the lenses every once in a while (probably every 6 weeks in summer; less in winter - when I get around to it) and in the past year they haven't noticeably faded.

I wasn't sure how long to do each stage of wet sanding, so here's how long I did each stage: 1 for 6 mins, 2 for 12 mins, 3 for 20 mins, 4 for 35 mins on each headlight. Read morePublished 11 days ago by anonymous
