I got this so I could connect to an Epson LCD Projector via the VGA port. My intention is to have a segment during regular monthly PC club meetings so as to demonstrate smartphone technology on the big screen. Our first meeting using this adapter will be tomorrow so I just tried to test the connection. At first it would not work. Once I attached the micro USB power adapter to the side of the adapter (same micro USB as the one for my phone) it worked fine. Screen flips depending on the orientation of the phone (unless you have adjusted it not to do so in Settings). You will need an external speaker though. (The Epson projector has one, but it is a bit weak.) I use a Divoom iTour speaker which is adequate for our meeting... which is in an average sized room.

Update (4-26-2013): There were some problems with the video displaying out to the LCD projector. It seems that you need to be very careful so as to not wiggle the connection with the phone (USB and power connectors) AT ALL or you will lose the image. I had to lay it down on a table so as to minimize the problem, which kind of eliminates demonstrating the use of apps that use the gravitometer. This has essentially killed the interst in demos of the phone at computer club meetings. I will comment on my next attempt, if I try again.

As another reviewer said, you need to use bluetooth accessories (keyboard and mouse) if you intend to use this cable with a keyboard, mouse, etc.

That is the only drawback. It works well for old monitors and projectors that use VGA, or anything that can be adapted to VGA (such as DVI-A). You should use native HDMI if it is available. If no HDMI is available (as is the case for 99% of projectors you'll encounter in offices), you'll need this cable.

Four stars is for good video quality and the ability to charge while using the cable. But since you can't use the cable as a USB Host port with an OTG cable, I can't give it 5 stars. Still, I'm keeping the item and will find it useful with my bluetooth accessories.

I use this on my phone to hook it up to a projector. We have movie night once a week in the backyard and the whole neighborhood comes over. This is simple and easy to set up. We watch Amazon Prime movies, Netflix and Cloud movies with ease.

works good with the Zoom tablet and all the projectors I've tried so far, pity the cord is so short because I can't lift the tablet from next to it during a presentation, but I am learning to maneuver the situation.

Does not work with my Motorola Droid Razr HD on Adroid 4.4.2. Apparently Motorola dropped support for the Webtop Application starting with the Droid Razr series that enabled this to work in late 2012. The reviews indicated this worked with Droid Razr HD so I thought it would work. Fortunately the seller refunded my purchase immediately upon request.

This device does exactly what it says it does.

Unfortunately, it also disables your USB for anything but charging. It occupies the USB port of the tablet or phone, and does not pass data. So USB drives, keyboards, mice or any other device can not be used when you use this device.

This device does just what it is supposed to do: project your Motorola RAZR screen through a VGA projector. It is great for an app demo to an audience. An option is to be a projected browser which is really cool and works fine, but isn't something I've found that I use. One nice design feature is that there is a charger plug opening so you can have your device plugged in for a presentation.
