Peak fitness is a prerequisite for a competitive edge, and top motorsport teams routinely employ medics, psychologists, dieticians and even armed forces specialists to help drivers hone their performance. It’s a different picture at national and club level, where poor preparation can blight potential. Here, however, a doctor who competes as a rally driver offers expert information on all aspects of physical and mental fitness, including diet, training, safety and medical regulations.

This Second Edition of the original is a great addition to the fitness library for drivers involved in all motorsports. Expanding on the base knowledge of the authors, they also reached out to industry experts to expand the variety of training activities that can utilized, including specialized eye-hand and rhythm coordination activities such as punching a speed bag punch, Wobble Board sessions and the Batak Board for increasing Speed, Agility and Quickness. Coupling these with other more standard fitness training regimes such as stretching and circuit training, the author offer a full range of fitness activities. For the "motor based athlete" this is a recognition of the unique fitness requirements of your sport and offers legitimate training activities to increase your fitness and on course/driving skills performance.

After hearing about this book through my trainers, Andy Blow and Vo2, I knew it was going to be something great. Then it was a huge honour for me when they asked me to contribute my own racing experiences. Once I received the final copy it turned out to be a fountain of knowledge and insight in all the aspects of racing even for me with almost 2 decades of racing during my life. I thoroughly recommend this to all levels of drivers, as well as racing enthusiasts, for the most up to date information inside.

Good read, especially if you are relatively new to fitness training and nutrition, but not an advanced level information source.
