Very easy to set up and install. You almost do not need directions if you have had past experiences with other trail cams.
Better strap now is provided. If you worry about security don't. Any committed thief will get this camera off the tree. It does have a security code that perhaps would be able to hack the code but for your common thief, I think they would not have enough intelligence to break the code.
Day time video is very nice. I am using SanDisk Extreme Pro 8 GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Flash Memory Card 95MB/s SDSDXPA-008G-AFFP and I set the trail camera to the highest setting. Very rich and colorful picture. Pretty good night videos too. I tried a 10 second video clip and found it to be too brief so my next set is 30 seconds with a one minute interval. I want to see what is there but I also do not want to be overwhelmed with too many pictures.
It needs six C-batteries.
You can record sound with the video if you prefer. You can also turn off. Sound is fun and adequate but don't expect Dolby quality.
If you are using Apple products, you can not update the firmware in the camera nor download the time-lapse software. These items can only be set up using Microsoft computer.
It is smaller than prior trail cames. Still a bit hefty with the batteries in in but still more compact and hopefully, harder for thieves to see.
Longevity is yet to be determined but form ease of set up and quality of videos, I am pleased.
Cost les here on Amazon vs. the big box hunting stores.
Great images and the sound is excellent. The mic is VERY sensitive, I could hear a coyote lapping up water from my wildlife watering tank. Being a unidirectional mic it picks up sounds from all around the camera, which is a bit distracting in the wind. I fashioned a small cardboard cover, so the mic picks up better from the direction the camera is pointed.
6/28/2013 Something happened to the memory on this camera, it no longer kept the video settings once programmed and failed back to the photo mode. Returned it to Moultrie.
I hung two of these in my yard to monitor my property each about 7'-8' off the ground on hardwood trees and the camouflage makes them almost disappear. I didn't tell my wife or kids as a test and they were unaware for more than a month.
Picture quality is excellent and the night-vision range is exactly as described.
Battery life so far has been excellent. My front-yard camera captures about 3,000 frames in a week, has been there for almost two months and battery life still shows better than 80%.
The back yard camera takes far fewer pictures and is still showing battery life of 99%
The cameras are highly sensitive to movement so if there are any moving branches in the frame for example, you will get a lot of pictures of moving branches. (Hence the 3000 frames each week from the front yard camera)
Capturing video with sound is a lot of fun, too.
I also recommend getting a spare SD card (at 32Gb will hold almost 8,000 pictures) so you can swap those out for collecting pics. I say this because I'm pretty sure the camera I had to send back was working fine until I attempted to connect a USB cable to download pics. It hung and then after that point it would only function in IR mode making for crummy black-and-white daytime pics.
I have to give the Amazon exchange process five starts, by the way! They shipped a replacement as soon as I'd filled out the exchange request even before I'd gotten to UPS to drop off my return! Great service!
