Intimacy in the Mountains!
A (standing ovation) for A-list actors “Kate Winslet” and “Idris Elba” for a job well done in this movie! The premise: Two people survive a horrific plane crash in the snowy mountains, through their ordeal, they develop an emotional and intimate attachment to each other….that’s basically it!My personal thoughts: This movie demonstrates under extreme circumstances anyone, no matter their race, sex, man to man, women to women or male and female can develop an intimate bond or attachment to each other. These facts are substantiated and sourced by (Psychology) and basic human nature. Otherwise, this is an amazing movie that is very good. There are some dry areas scattered about the movie, there is only about 10% action, it’s mostly a hunter gatherer, survival movie. The Facts:1. Running Time: 1 hr. 50 min.2. Widescreen HD.3. Sound 7.1 DTS-HD (Excellent Sound Quality).4. Beautiful Cinematography.5. Some scattered dry areas in the movie, kind of predictable, yet easy to follow.6. Excellent character development.7. Intense, mysterious, and suspenseful.8. Some carnage.9. Only about 10% action...if even that.Thank you!

The Mountain Between Us" is a captivating survival romance film that follows two strangers, played by Idris Elba and Kate Winslet, who find themselves stranded in the remote wilderness after a plane crash. As they face treacherous conditions and the threat of the unknown, they must work together to survive and find their way back to civilization.
The film excels in its breathtaking cinematography, capturing the stark beauty and unforgiving nature of the mountainous landscape. The vast, snowy wilderness becomes a character in itself, adding to the sense of isolation and peril that the protagonists experience. The performances by Idris Elba and Kate Winslet are both compelling and heartfelt, as they navigate the challenges of survival and form a deep emotional connection amidst the harsh conditions.
The chemistry between Elba and Winslet is palpable, drawing viewers into the evolving relationship between their characters. The film skillfully balances moments of tension and danger with heartfelt exchanges and poignant reflections, creating a sense of intimacy and vulnerability that drives the emotional core of the story.
While some may find the plot predictable in parts, the film's focus on the characters and their emotional journey elevates it beyond a simple survival tale. The themes of resilience, human connection, and the power of hope are woven throughout the narrative, offering a deeper exploration of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
Overall, "The Mountain Between Us" is a visually stunning and emotionally resonant film that combines elements of survival, romance, and drama to create a compelling cinematic experience. It is a testament to the strength of the human will and the bonds that can form in the most unlikely of circumstances, making it a memorable and engaging watch for audiences seeking a blend of adventure and emotion.

I already knew this was going to be a love story because I knew Dusk Till Dawn was in this movie. Even still, I enjoyed the buildup to get there. The ending was pretty perfect, honestly. I can't think of a better way to have done it. I'm still thinking about this movie nearly a week later

Despite having two of my favorite actors, the book was much better.

I make my Amazon *movie* product reviews about the "delivered product", not the actual movie. [Since I *purchased* this Amazon Prime UHD video, you should assume that I like the movie itself. :-) And I do.]
As for the Prime UHD (and HD) video, it has a definite problem. Specifically, the video is being presented in aspect ratio 2.20 on my equipment, but the movie was shot in 2.39. Thus, everything is taller and skinnier than it should be (in case you're wondering "why all the long faces?") I've tried this on a modern large 4K TV as well as a good sized (older) 2K/HD TV, using both a current model AppleTV and a (somewhat older) Roku Premiere+. All combinations fail to present in 2.39 aspect ratio. I should also note that viewing this video in the Safari browser on a current Apple Mac shows the same problem. (I purchased this prime video a couple of months ago, reported the problem, and got a refund. I repurchased this very recently, hoping the problem had been fixed, but no such luck.)
To be fair, many people may not notice the difference.
For what it is worth, the other qualities of the 4K/UHD video are quite nice.

Unfortunately, I did not notice that it is 'Region B' rated. Therefore, we were not able to view it. From having watched it on TV however, we do know that it is a good movie. The seller was very accommodating at providing us with return postage, with no questions asked. Unfortunately, I was not able to follow through on this as I had already removed the cellophane wrapping.

What I hoped it wouldn't be.

If you are not aware of a synopsis then there are spoilers in this review.
I was disappointed to find that “The Mountain Between Us” was what I hoped it would not be – clichéd and predictable.
Ed Potton from “The Times” is quoted on the DVD cover saying “A great date movie”.
This is a well-made film generally, and to the director’s credit Hany Abu-Assad made the film in the mountains and not inside a computer (with a few exceptions where scenes necessitated the use of software) as he wanted the film to look convincing. The film looks good if you can manage to overlook some of the things that are portrayed badly. For example: Is one really meant to believe that half an aeroplane is not needed to continue to be able to fly at all? Ok I’m being picky – I know it’s poetic license.
Tens of millions of Dollars will have been spent on making this film, they’ve done an amazing job technically and then let it down with a bit of wood burning (or not burning as the case might be). Whilst it might be cheaper to burn a campfire using gas (and easier for continuity, and no smoke to worry about, and little danger of anything else catching fire) it doesn’t look like a campfire – it looks like a gas flame.
Ben and Alex consume minimal calories and are in freezing snowbound mountains where the chill-factor from any wind would make it even colder and make everything difficult to do (moving, talking, thinking even) and yet did they shiver at all, did we see their teeth chattering with the cold? Ok it’s poetic license again.
On the plus side, the cinematography is brilliant and the scenery looks amazing.
But as Ed Potton said – it’s a date movie.
