Mountain Boy Butterfly Convertible Sled/Wagon

Amazon.com

The unique design of the Mountain Boy Butterfly convertible sled/wagon is perfect for small children with double seats of hand-carved willow that feature comfortable, tilted back rests, and side rails for holding on. The deck is made of 5/8-inch thick birch planks, joined together in a durable tongue-and-groove joint. A marine-grade finish (lead-free of course) protects the wood, and all screws and bolts are construction of stainless steel for durability. The rugged steel undercarriage of the wagon is powder-coated, and the inflatable tires provide excellent shock absorption. The curved birchwood runners of the sled turn it into a sturdy but elegant pull sled.

Adult assembly required, but assembly is easy. To make it a wagon, all you have to do is tighten the 7 bolts that connect the undercarriage to the wooden top, plus the bolt that attaches the extra-long handle. To make it a sled, just attach the runners and wooden crosspieces with 6 bolts. The Butterfly meets all USC, ASTM and CE child safety standards. The finish is lead-free.

I order one of these- it came- it was beautiful! Except some screws were on an angle and stuck through the wooden bars. Sent back for replacement- got a sub-par VERY SMELLY one, that all of a sudden had a wood handle instead of a metal one, and less quality carving on the surface of the wagon and of course the chemical stench. I called Mountain boy to discuss and explain I wanted one like the first one they sent, but not defective with the screws sticking out. They said they changed their manufacturing. The guy was pretty rude and defensive about the new sub-par quality. He did however arrange for the metal handle of the priginal wagon be sent back to me so I could replace the one on my wagon. That was helpful but he didn't really want to help me out you could tell. Used to be beautiful, if had quality control issues, now- not so beautiful and pretty mediocre quality. Took weeks for stench to wear off but it did and wagon has physically held up. Just hard to swallow getting something lesser when you had seen the original in person.

I've wanted this wagon for a couple of years but thought the price was too high. I have several Mountain Boy sled works products and have visited their shop in Colorado and met Bryce Hoskins. This combo sled and wagon is perfect for my needs. The wood work is great and best of all my grandaughter loves it. I would purchase this item again.

We were so excited to get this for our son's first birthday. We hoped it would not only be a great all-purpose wagon for him, but an heirloom as well. When the box arrived we opened it immediately and started to assemble. Unfortunately, the hardware (bolts and nuts) were loose in the box and half-way through, we noticed there were some nuts missing. After a trip to the hardware store, we had everything we needed, however some of the pre-drilled holes on the wagon were mis-aligned - the construction seemed less than precision, even by hand-made standards. Nonetheless, we finished assembling and went for a test-ride. Our son loved it and it seemed to provide a smooth ride for him. On only the third or fourth ride, however, three of the bolts in the steering mechanism fell out completely.

We've decided to keep the wagon and just make a few adjustments (re-install longer bolts in the steering mechanism) and continue to tighten all of the nuts every so often. We love the look and ride of the wagon but we are really disappointed in its overall construction.
