I'm rating this a 2.5.

I liked this story. In the beginning, it took me a bit to get into the actual story. I'm not sure why, either. I ended up putting it aside, reading something else, and then coming back to it before I was able to read it. I love stories about witches and magic. I loved the premise; a young girl makes a wish for her grown-up self, and then, due to life's circumstances, no longer wants to believe in that wish or magic. I enjoyed the supporting characters, and felt they were all built up with enough substance, that they weren't throw-away to me. And for the most part, I loved Angelina and Dylan. Their relationships with their parents, how they both handled the magical spectrum and how sweet Dylan was about the whole thing. But I just had a few problems with the overall plot.

I have never been a fan of stories where the male has had multiple partners, and the female hasn't. While I appreciated the reasoning behind Angelina keeping her virginity, it still bugged me that Dylan was so much more experienced. While it wasn't touched on in great detail like some books - and I appreciate that about Sydney Logan stories - it was still there.

Angelina could be very snotty. This bothered me. I understood her desire to protect her family, but when it came to Dylan, even though her mother, who she trusted so fiercely, believed him to be a good guy, she just didn't give an inch. I know this was in part to her "wish" but it just seemed like she was forcing it too much. I guess I can understand why she reacted how she did, but it just drove me crazy.

Do Appalachian Mountain witches really exist? That’s exactly what Dylan Thomas sets out to find out in the sweet love story, Mountain Charm. Sydney Logan has created another engaging plot, and you’ll be convinced that love charms and healers are real.

Angelina Clark casts a spell on her thirteenth birthday, just like her female ancestors before her have, to find her true love when she turns twenty-one. Unfortunately, by the time of her twenty-first birthday life has dealt her a sour hand and she no longer wants any part of the spell. She believes the attraction she feels to journalist Dylan Thomas isn’t real, and neither is his devotion to her.

But with Dylan’s persistence and her mother’s love, Angelina begins to realize that even if the charm played a part in bringing her love to her, it has no part in keeping them together. Dylan’s not perfect, and he has issues of his own to resolve, so they’ll need to work together like any other couple to make their relationship successful.

If you’re looking for a charming love story, look no further than Mountain Charm. This is another well-written tale with just enough family issues and outside interference to balance the sweetness. I loved that the hero wasn’t the run of the mill alpha male. He had flaws to overcome, making him more believable. And although the story was mostly focused on Angelina, Dylan also had family issues to resolve, adding depth to his character and the plot.

Ms. Logan is a master at happily ever afters, and this book did not disappoint. I look forward to reading more by her in the future.

The Charm of Mountain Charm
When I pick up a book by Sydney Logan, I know I will be taken to someplace very special. I know Sydney will create characters I wish I could meet and a setting I wish I could visit. And Mountain Charm is no exception; in fact, I think it's my favorite of Sydney's work so far.
What thirteen-year-old girl wouldn't want to conduct some kind of charm to ensure she finds the perfect love? I was a girl like that, dreamy, romantic, idealistic. I know I would have done it. Still, I could completely sympathies with Angelina's doubts when she was an adult. Life had dealt her two terrible blows. Why believe in magic after that?
I felt like I was right there with Angelina as she struggled with her feelings for Dylan, trying to tell herself his feelings couldn't be real, forced upon him by magic. I agonized with her worries about how to pay the medical bills. I knew I'd want someone strong to stand with me through it all, and Dylan was the perfect one to do it.
I left the pages of Mountain Charm reluctantly. I wanted it to go on. I wanted to see Angelina's shop, meet the people of Maple ridge, and breathe in the sweet mountain air. It was an experience, and it will live with me for a long long time.
Sydney Logan is a true artist. Her novels are more than just romances. She shows us her love of the country, her love of people, and her deep sense of love. I know this book will join my favorites for this year and is far up on my all-time favorites list as well.
