After three years of social work in Nashville, Eliza Redding is eager to leave behind her life at home for a new adventure. Nestled deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina is the site of her first job as a clinical counselor: Rockbridge Academy, a rehabilitative boarding school for troubled youth. Anticipating that she'll be the only Latter-day Saint at the academy, Eliza is pleasantly surprised to discover that English teacher Henry Jacobson is a fellow member of the Church. Her excitement is quickly diminished, however, when she discovers Henry's standoffish and cold personality--undeterred, she commences the monumental task of befriending her reserved coworker.

As they each face serious familial struggles, Eliza and Henry find themselves drawn together by their growing understanding of each other. But when a life-threatening crisis arises at the academy and family conflicts escalate, will these two independent spirits realize they are meant for each other?

Author note: This book was published with a religious small press and centers largely around elements of faith and finding religion. If you're here because you've enjoyed my more recent romcoms, this is a very different kind of book! It still has elements of romance (I don't know how to write without romance!) but it is more serious in tone and topic.

Mountains Between Us by Jenny Proctor is the story of two people who have been hurt and are struggling to find better lives. They've been betrayed by family, yet they care about family members and want to help those they love while building a better future for themselves....Proctor draws the reader in to experience the emotional conflicts of her characters as they deal with the heart-breaking conflicts in their lives and rise above the hurt that has been inflicted on them. Both Eliza and Henry move forward, but at differing paces to come to term with their losses and the deficiencies in their childhoods. The author doesn t minimize the effort involved in learning to recognize what can t be changed, but can be a starting place for achieving the kind of lives they want.
This book deals with some highly emotional issues, but the author is to be commended for not turning it into a tear jerker. Though the reader will experience emotional pain, he/she will also find it an uplifting move-forward story. --Meridian Magazine

About the Author

Jenny Proctor writes from her home in the mountains of Western North Carolina. She loves being a mom, loves being a writer, and loves being a Mormon in the South. Jenny convinced that the four basic food groups should be fruit, bread, cheese, and chocolate and consumes plenty of each, quite often together. When she isn t writing, Jenny likes to run, swim, and bike (because it balances out the bread, cheese, and chocolate).Mountains Between Us is a reflection of Jenny s love for the Blue Ridge Mountains. She believes the mountains have a way of filling people and making them happy and hopes to share a little of their majesty and spirit through her words.Jenny s first book, The House at Rose Creek, was released in 2013.

Another beautiful story from Jenny Proctor.

I really liked Eliza and Henry. At first, I thought Eliza was the happy-go-lucky kind of character but her relationship with her mother is somewhat strained, and it's even worse with her sister who has addiction problems.
Henry is still recovering from his divorce 2 years prior and he doesn't know how to relate to his 7 yo son. Then someone from his past returns to complicate things for him.
With added problems at the school, there is enough going on in lives of these characters to pull them in all directions.

The setting is beautifully done and the secondary characters serve a purposeful role (it was great to see Kate and Andrew!) in adding to the story

I admit I was frustrated with Henry at times but he got there eventually.

I also enjoyed Flip and his conversion and I was glad to find out he'll be in the main character in an upcoming story (yay!).

I appreciate when Christian authors see that Mormons (LDS) are Christians. As a Mormon herself, this author understands. What some might call "preachy," a good Christian knows is living their life according to their convictions. This book was consistently well researched and well presented.

I loved the location of this story. The Blue Ridge Mountains have always been a place I've wanted to visit. The story was so good, helping me realize that I have some resentment myself towards family members. The characters were excellent and stayed up with the story. Of course the description of the surrounding mountains made me want to be there in person. I loved the book.
