Plenty of space
Plenty of places to tie gear to
Top and bottom compartments
Very sturdy on your body
A real outdoorsman's pack
Could use a few more compartments with zippers to seperate things but not nearly bad enough to lose a star.
In all I think anyone looking for a good medium sized pack that won't break their budget would look no further. This is the best deal for the money and I've owned well into the 20's of backpacks.
I believe the pro are:
Appears to be waterproof or at least extremely water resistant.
Appears very well built.
The only cons I see.....Is the fabric that separates the inner main compartment from the outer lower storage pocket for access is hooked and has gaps between the the shelf and wall. Probably not a big issue if small items are not wanted to be stored in the main compartment as they will fall into the lower pocket.
The straps on the bottom of the pack could be longer and the clips could be better located. I typically attach my sleeping bag in this location and will have to add some strapping...Neither a deal breaker!
Overall an excellent pack especially for the price range I did a ton of research before I purchased this pack! It was highly rated by various backpacking publications and private reviews.....I look forward to many years of use!
1st off, aesthetically I freakin love this bag. It looks great, to the point where I wont be letting it out of my site if other people are around. 2nd, the design and layout of the bag are great. There are pockets of the size I want where I need them and it isn't over complicated or cluttered with a lot of "little thingy" areas. 3rd, the weight of the bag is great. The fabric is clearly saving weight but still feels pretty beefy. 4th, I turned the internet inside out and this bag's specs are rare. A full featured set up with the degree of suspension this bag has for only a 50L was hard to find--I'm sick of 60L or bigger bags.
I have added one feature to the bag. I stitched Velcro at the top of the side and hip belt mesh pockets just to add a peace of mind level closure to them. But I've had bags in my life with mesh side pockets that were looser and haven't lost anything so I can't knock this bag for the mesh pockets it has.
I look forward to running this bag through the gears and seeing how it holds up but I feel confident.
One more thing, Mountainsmith, can you please call up MEC and arrange a contract to sell your stuff in Canada!
