The RAM Mount approach is fantastic! Instead of making a different mount for each type of thing that needs to be mounted, they make the basic mounting unit and then individual holders that attach to each of the mounts. That way, if and when I change my GPS unit in the future, I only have to get the new cradle and attach it to the mount that I already have. It's not only cheaper in the long run, it means that there are lots of options. I'm never going back to the Garmin mounts.
I contacted RAM Mount for some pre-sales assistance, and they were very helpful. It seems like a company with their act together. I really recommend checking them out.
Luckily I can say this mount is rock-solid for high-impact applications. It is also surprising solid at all temperatures since I routinely operate down to 15 degrees F and have never had a problem with the plastic failing to flex to accommodate the unit.
Engineering grade product!
This mount is as easy to use as it gets. It's a snap, literally, to pop the GPS in and out when, for instance, stopping into a gas station, store or restaurant. The best thing, though, is the confidence it gives you that it will not let loose of your GPS even in the roughest of riding conditions.
I bought and used this cradle specifically for a 1000-mile off-road ride on SW Colorado in which we often rode over 100 miles a day on back-country trails, sigle track and jeep trails. We rode Ophir, Black Bear, Cinnamon, Engineers Pass, Wildcat Trail, and many other trails and passes that truely put this mount to the test.
I bought a second one and have an industrial-grade 3M Dual-Lock (like a high-tech Velcro) attachment of an aluminum bracket to carry this on my VStrom-1000. The rides I do with that bike, while not quite as rough, are usually much longer, in the 200 to 300 mile range, and I often do 15 to 50 miles of fire roads and other types of dirt roads on those trips.

seems to hold GPS OK on bars of a Dual Sport, but could be more secure. You can have it pop out but you gotta ride pretty rough stuff or tip over.Published 5 months ago by Little Goat Services LLC
