The RAM-B-149Z-UN7U consists of a zinc coated u-bolt base, double socket arm and universal X-Grip cradle. Included in this package is hardware that will accommodate rails from 0.50" to 1.25" in diameter. The base includes black cover caps to be placed over the exposed ends of the u-bolt. The mount is designed with a RAM 1" diameter patented rubber ball and socket system that has adjustment points at both ends of the double socket arm; this allowing for almost infinite adjustment and perfect viewing angles. The included composite rail adapter can narrow the rail to a minimum width of 0.5". The included X-Grip cradle has a clean and clever four leg design that sports great holding power without hiding your phone behind foam pads and plastic. The spring loaded X-Grip cradle expands and contracts, allowing for a perfect custom fit of your cell phone. The perfect complement to the modern sleek interior of today's vehicles, the RAM X-Grip is the cell phone cradle evolved.
The X-Grip includes a device tether recommended for outdoor applications. The cradle is compatible with handheld devices that will fit the dimensions listed below. It is important to verify the dimensions of your handheld device with a case/sleeve/skin when determining the overall size.
Minimum Width = 1.875" (Minimum Height = 4.25")
Maximum Width = 3.25" (Minimum Height = 2.25")
Depth = 0.875"

After reading reviews about not getting tether, I wanted to make sure whoever I got mine from included this. I saw Semsons & Co., Inc. had 100% feedback, so I called their customer service number and the woman I spoke with confirmed that they only sell original RAM products packaged by RAM with everything that is included. So I went ahead and ordered from them. I received my package on time and everything (including the tether) was included. So those reading the reviews I highly recommend Semson's to buy from so you don't have to worry about not getting everything.
Next thing is the rubber feet. Many stated they fell off or that the included glue didn't work. I had some crazy glue so I used that. The feet are on there nice and solid and after crazy gluing, I feel they will stay in place. I didn't bother using the included glue. Just my suggestion.
Next thing are the nylon bolts. Many said they were junk, painted poorly, etc. I think they are fine for what you get. Just be sure to use the proper socket to install them and be careful when putting them on. Mine came new (not used), they installed fine, and none of the paint came off.
If I had a con for this mount, it is that like many stated, I had to also move my phone down slightly in the mount so that the upper right foot did not rest on the side buttons. When I first put it in, it rested right on my power button and my phone turned off. After moving it slightly it is now fine and the foot is no longer resting on any of the side buttons (MOTO E 2nd gen). I know that this may concern you seeing the phone isn't centered in the mount, but with the tether it was held in secure. I only got to use it on one ride so far (3hr ride), but it stayed in place and didn't move at all.
The only other minor con is that RAM doesn't include any mounting/installation instructions, only a brochure for other products and a one page picture brochure explaining how to use the tether. It isn't rocket science to install it and common sense should be all that you need to figure it out, but for those that rely on instructions, they might not be pleased.
Overall I am satisfied with this mount and would not hesitate to buy one in the future. Now I just need to figure out which beverage mount I want to get for the other side of the handlebars.
The install is incredibly easy: Fit the u-bolt and bottom bracket around the handlebar, slide the upper bracket over the u-bolt, attach nuts and tighten. Done. Using the mount is simple, just pinch together two of the arms on each side, insert phone, and let go. I had to do a bit of adjust so the rubber tips of the arms weren't squeezing against the phone's power button, but that's obviously device specific. There are two u-bolts included for different sized bars, I used the bigger version on a Harley.
The tension on the phone is nice and tight but I also use the rubber stretchy device to grab the corners of the phone, I dont think the phone would shake loose from the X-arms but why take a chance with a $600 phone. A long weekend ride and the positon of the phone barely moved, even after unfortunately having to navigate an unavoidable gravel road, all the mounting points stayed pretty much where I set them when the ride was over.
I will say one thing and this is where the device loses a star: The rubber tips of the arms slide on and off, and Ram recommends using the included glue to secure them permanently, why Ram doesn't just do this themselves I don't know. So here it is: DO NOT USE THE INCLUDED GLUE. There is a small vial of some version of super glue included with the mount, throw it in the trash, don't even try to use it.
I cut the tip and carefully tried to squeeze out a bit of glue, it spurted out instead and splashed my hand, and it felt like acid; I don't know what Chinese factory produces such glue but they must include toxic waste in their recipe because it burns on the skin. Use Loctite brand super glue or perhaps even Elmers-type white glue instead, the included stuff is awful and Ram should take heed. I used a milder super glue to attach the rubber tips and they're on for good now.
