Watch out scrawny toms - there's another bone-thin moggy on the block! It's David Greilsammer! Poor bugger - he's thin to the point of being translucent! Why didn't Sony feed him? Can't someone spare him some worm tablets?

This is a candidate for my worst discovery in 2015. Expect it to stay the journey. Man, it's bad stuff. Don your Hazmat suits - here we go.

Greilsammer plays K 181 as quickly as possible with a Tom Thumb orchestra where clipped phrasing is the order of the day and vibrato is excluded. What a farce. Since when has Mozart been served by mere kinetics? What of decorum? Can he not luxuriate in pure being? Greilsammer rockets through in 4'22" / 2'16" / 1'46" whereas Uncle Karl with the Berliners, in an animated performance, offer 5'30" / 3'16" / 2'16. The rest is silence, exhaust fumes and burnt rubber.

Greilsammer plays K 271 as quickly as possible with a Tom Thumb orchestra where clipped phrasing is the order of the day and vibrato is excluded. While he uses a modern-day piano, it's played ever so airily - so why bother? A harpsichord would have done the job. There's no recognition here whatsoever that the Jeunehomme Concerto is "Mozart's Eroica" (Einstein). The tragedy of its slow movement has been bowdlerised - it's now pitched at Scooby Doo (not that it's my favourite performance by a long shot but Brendel & Mackerras add another two and a half minutes to the Andantino). Blink and the entire forgettable affair is gone and that ain't a bad thing.

Lurking in the mix is a new composition called In-Between by the Swiss composer Denis Schuler. According to the UK Telegraph, "it's an effective counterbalance to Mozart in its colour and animation." For "Mozart" read "Mozart-in-the-microwave.
