So I thought this was a cute romance book. It was like this small-town romance. You weren't sure if they would even survive because they really are so different, but somehow it meshes for now. I think this was a well-written book. I really look forward to more books from this author.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
Mr. Anything is a new story by Emily Bishop. The protagonists are Fiona Hall and Shane Perkins. They meet when Shane, who is visiting Mystic, CT from Houston, TX, goes into the hardware store that Fiona works in. They feel an instant chemistry which leads to several weeks of arguing/flirting with neither one letting the other win. They both enjoy the banter but try to deny the attraction. Eventually it is discovered that they have a shared history through their fathers that involved Shane’s father bankrupting Fiona’s father with lots of bad blood on Fiona’s side. Shane and Fiona fight, split up, and he goes back to Texas because of an emergency at his company. This is where the story gets problematic for me. Shane is the third generation CEO of a billion dollar energy company. He goes back to Texas to deal with a crisis that threatens his role at his own company. After he deals with that, he rearranges everything in his life so that he can move to Mystic to be with woman he loves. My problem with this is that he owns/runs a billion dollars a year business and she is a clerk in a hardware store. Why is he rearranging his life to go to her? It would be much easier for her to just move to Texas. I’m sure there are hardware stores in Texas that need a sales clerk.
However, I really enjoyed the bantering between Shane and Fiona, Fiona and her best friend Drew, and Drews bantering with everyone. This lifted the story up for me. I have never read anything by this author but will be looking to read another book by her, Mr. Everything, soon.
