Only CON is the time it takes to get the plastic smell and taste out of the final product....I'd guess at least 4-5 brew cycles needed.
Minus: very sharp edge of plastic holder inside the carafe that holds the handle. I have to be very careful when I wash inside of the carafe.
The top is a little hard to open but needs to be because it must hold down the pause and serve valve. It is fine after you get used to it. I ran three runs of water through before I made coffee and I feel that it makes great coffee. I timed it today and it was about 6 minutes from turn on to finished.
It could use a little better non-skid treatment on bottom. I find the pouring into reservoir and to cup about the best I have used in a long while. While the opening is a little small it is not that hard to wash the caraffe.
I almost bought a Keurig but jsut did not see paying .50 for a cup or messing with the other individual fill options. Not to mention the rather dear price up front.
One last comment, the listing says White but shows Black, I received black which is what I really wanted anyway.
The coffee from both units tasted very good, but the Mr. Coffee needed one scoop more than the Farberware unit to achieve equal flavor. The glass pots are identical except for color (must be the same manufacturer). The Mr. Coffee brews but doesn't alert you when the brewing is finished. The Farberware unit beeps when the coffee is ready. I like that alert a lot and consider it an important feature.
Despite the solid plastic bottom of the permanent filter in the Mr. Coffee machine, the filter does a good job -- but I like the cone-shaped filter in the Farberware unit much more. When I dumped the grounds in the trash, the Mr. Coffee filter held onto some of the grounds and they would not shake free even when I tapped the filter against the wastebasket. The used grounds fell out of the Farberware filter quickly and easily. That, too, is an important feature in my view.
I had no trouble with the Mr. Coffee unit dripping coffee onto the burner plate when I removed the pot, but a friend who has the indentical unit says his does drip and he finds it annoying. The Farberware unit does not drip, though Farberware warns you to wait a few second after the beep to avoid dripping. I think I waited only about three or four seconds. No drip.
One thing in favor of the white Mr. Coffee is that if your unit grows some mold over time in the water tank, it'll be immediately obvious to you at a glance. The black Farberware unit won't have that advantage because the mold that grows in coffeemakers is black. I'll just have to be very careful about doing vinegar cleansings on a regular basis.
