About the Author
Monica’s love of things Regency started when she first read Pride and Prejudice at thirteen. Immediately afterwards, she went through a reading binge of Jane Austen’s novels then discovered Georgette Heyer as well. All good things must come to an end, however, and, as a literature professor, her early interest in Jane Austen was taken over by other writers, though she took to reading Regency romances as her guilty pleasure whenever she got a chance.
Then, in 2005, three things happened. Monica moved to England from the USA, saw the new Pride and Prejudice film adaptation with Matthew Macfadyen, and decided it was time she began to write. Not surprisingly, she turned to the Regency period for inspiration. Her first novel, AN IMPROPER SUITOR, a humorous Regency, was published by the long-established independent press, Robert Hale, and was a runner-up for the Joan Hessayon New Writers award from the Romantic Novelists’ Association.
Two more novels followed quickly after that: THE OTHER MR. DARCY, which was a Desert Island Best Pick for 2009 from All About Romance, and THE DARCY COUSINS, both published by Robert Hale in England and Sourcebooks in the USA.
Monica likes to look at things from unusual perspectives. THE OTHER MR. DARCY is a response to the negative portrayal of Miss Bingley. It looks at what makes Miss Bingley tick and introduces the charming Robert Darcy, Darcy's American cousin from Boston. It reached no. 1 on the Kindle Bestselling list under the category of Regency. THE DARCY COUSINS takes a close look at Georgiana Darcy’s development as she interacts with her brash American cousin Clarissa. Monica’s next novel, STEAMPUNK DARCY, takes JA spin-offs in an entirely different direction. It reached no. 4 on the Kindle Bestselling list under the category of Steampunk. Set in a pseudo-Victorian future, it is a post-apocalyptic novel featuring a descendent of William Darcy and a comic play on the characters of Pride and Prejudice.
Monica is a member of the blog Austen Variations along with eighteen other authors who also write Jane Austen adaptations. She is a member of the team writing the popular Reader’s Choice serial THE DARCY BROTHERS featuring the charismatic Theo Darcy.
MR. DARCY'S PLEDGE, is her most traditional Pride and Prejudice variation to date.
Monica lives in Surrey within the Greater London area and loves visiting historical properties when it isn’t raining.

The story unfolds when Darcy returns abruptly to Pemberley from Rosings after being refused by Elizabeth. It was wonderful to see Georgiana's perspective of her brother at this time and the way his manner had changed so profoundly without any explanation. There were botched attempts to gain the assistance from his annoying and meddling relatives. Entertaining! Bingley's torment at losing Jane was portrayed well especially considering how much he loved his 'Angel'.
I enjoyed reading Darcy's passionate thoughts and feelings about his beautiful Elizabeth when their paths crossed again. How will he win her back?? No letter to soften the blow either, interesting twist! Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this variation and I look forward to the next part quite eagerly!
Poor Mr. Darcy, all twisted and bent out of shape. His love for Elizabeth was so obvious. But her refusal, so heart wrenching! He must find a way to forget her. He must make a list of the qualities that Pemberley's mistress must possess. And there is Georgiana's come out to plan and he needs a wife or a lady to help him with that as well! He remembers his old friend, a neighbor, he has passed on but his parents were such good friends of the family, maybe they could help? He will go and find out!
He finds his friends' parents to be just as he remembers, but they have a guest, just then a very beautiful Miss Marshall comes along. Maybe this is what he needs to forget Elizabeth. Miss Marshall is serene, proper, beautiful, condescending when it is necessary, and from a good family. A marriage of convenience is not unheard of in his circle of society, as a matter of fact, it is the norm. So Mr Darcy sets out to see if Miss Marshall would be a good mistress for his beloved Pemberley. But he would not let his heart rule him in this matter!
Being unsure of Miss Marshall on such a short acquaintance, he decides a house party sounds like a good idea. Darcy can meet new ladies, Georgiana can learn to be a hostess and mingle with the neighbors in preparation for the season, her first. Yes, a house party!
Things never go as perfect as we would wish, but they do go as destiny or fate would wish. After a brief visit to London and a discussion with Mr. Bingley, Mr. Darcy is on his way back to Pemberley to get ready for his party. On his way he finds a bad carriage accident very near his estate. To his dismay, a middle aged couple are the victims of an overturned carriage, due to a hay cart accident. Then he sees her! Elizabeth, here, and hurt! He doesn't even think twice, she needs him and he needs her, if in different ways! He realizes when he sees her that he still loves her. No one could replace her. He must do all he can to show her he is not the man she thinks he is. He must win her at all costs. No matter how hard he has struggled to put her behind him, the sight of her brings it all back with a vengeance! How will things play out? You will have to read it to find out!
I enjoyed this book so much I can not wait to read the next one! Monica Fairview has a wonderful writing style, combining the new ideas into the original story with ease! I highly recommend this book, and all her others! I've read them all!
