Mr Dead Eyes revolves around the story of Dr Derek Schillar, a medical doctor from Roseville Hospital,he has a perfect wife June and his two small girls much to the envy of his friend Kurt Austin who has his own secrets and agendas. Henry Stolley a man living on his own is found murdered in Canada, how is Derek connected to this when Henry Stolley was in Canada and Dr Derek Scillar was on duty in America? And what does Derek's blood have to do with it all?
There are two scenes that really stand out for me. I absolutely loved the scene of Kurt standing over Derek as he needs surgery( I'm not spoiling it)I thought his speech was brilliant it showed a different side to Kurt that I wasn't expecting nor the twist of direction that the story went in.
I also loved the tenderness of the scene when Derek is talking to the Marshall a boy who has leukemia. It's a beautiful heartfelt scene that shows the innocence and trusting nature of children and the miracle of kindness of others who's life mission is to help others and Derek definitely does that despite his deformatity of recent events he still wants to be a doctor first and help others.
Mr Dead Eyes made me question my own life and to be grateful for what I have as it can be gone in an blink of an eye.
Mr Scarlato has a really subtle, unique way of drawing you into his story with a unique and original storyline that will want you to believe that the drug exists and works (intrigued now, aren't you?) He portrays characters that you can empathize with and a style of writing that is clear and concise. The story was intriguing and had my full attention throughout. When I wasn't reading, I was thinking of when I could read and when I was reading, I didn't want to because that meant the story would be over sooner. The story didn't lull or lag anywhere for me and with the murder in the first chapter the story has you hooked from the beginning. You do start to wonder how everything is linked but it comes together piece by piece with a few 'ahh' moments thrown in. I loved the way I didn't know what was going to happen next.
This is a journey of betrayal revenge and nothing is as it seems. So one click on this book. Grab yourself a cuppa and enjoy this 5 star read.
