Top Customer Reviews
UPDATE: I wrote this review in 2007 and now in 2012, the crate still looks brand new. My dog sleeps in it every night and hangs out in it during the day. I don't close the gate anymore;she stays in it becuase she loves it. It's perfect den. The price has increased about 25% since I bought it, but I would still buy it because she loves it, it looks great in the house, and I can't imagine that I'll need to replace it anytime soon.
I thought about taking a star off because I remember when I assembled it, the holes did not perfectly align, and I needed to use a significant amount of brute strength to force the pieces into position to be able to thread the last couple of bolts. I remember thinking that my wife would have been able to do it by herself. Also, the plastic liner/tray was too large and I needed to cut about a half inch off for it to fit inside and properly lay on the bottom.
Aside from these issues, the crate has served us wonderfully and still looks new. The top of the crate is sufficiently strong/sturdy to be able to place small and reasonably light objects on such as books, without issue. We also really liked how easy the latch is to open, which seems to be a problem with many other crates. Although, this reminds me of one more thing I wasn't thrilled about with this crate (but I think is more of a preference), which is that the door can also swing inward which makes it possible for the latch to miss the slot when closing it. There were many times I went to open up the crate and found that it was not properly latched and could be pushed in, but not out. Fortunately, as I said, our dog was not trying to escape, so this never caused any issues.
Just remembered one more thing...another preference thing. As you can see in the picture, the sides of the crate are mostly covered in the wicker material, and the rear of the cage is completely covered. The door itself is completely cage-like, without any wicker. Because of this, we couldn't see our little girl very well unless we were looking from the front or were able to look from an angle that allowed visibility from one of the side windows. But very often, she was completely hidden. She could see out, but we could not see in. This is something we did not like, but again, a preference thing. We decided not to purchase the next larger size of this same crate because of this feature.
We use this for out 11 pound mini dachshund.
