To recap, each of The Misters were brought together when they were implicated in a notorious criminal investigation that left their college plans in tatters and place them under perpetual. cloud of suspicion. Mr. Mysterious' role in that fateful night is finally disclosed, and suddenly things become a lot more complicated.
Paxton is - well, we're not quite sure - part mercenary, part detective, all fixer. The illegitimate child of a Hollywood scion and Kentucky blueblood, Pax really wants to be an enigma and does his level best to keep everyone at arm's length. But he's met his match in Cinderella Shrike, Spencer and Ronnie's wayward baby girl. Cindy's a self taught private eye who's harbored a ten year crush on Mysterious which is fueling her stalker tendencies when their story opens. She will not be denied, and has a tendency to narrate her life out loud. She is every bit her mother's daughter with more than a dash of her brilliant, bad ass daddy thrown in for good measure - don't let the ridiculous name fool you. She's a Shrike dammit.
Their "office romance" starts off pretty hilarious, and is told, partially in flashback, by a drunken Pax, when he realizes, to his horror, he's been sleeping with his best (only?) friend's baby sister. Despite his protests, the Southern gentleman in Paxton falls hard for the fairy tale princess- especially when she sheds her borrowed, black- haired, surf punk persona. She forces light and laughter into his melancholy existence, along with an ongoing film noirish, detective-client role play that's more than a bit of kinky fun. The Pax exposed by Baby Bomb is the nothing like the James 2.0 so many Huss fans were expecting. He's a southern Prince Charming who loves his mother and deserves the princess - even if he doesn't think so.
Make no mistake. This is no rom com. Remember when I promised that The Misters would set our house on fire? Forget about the fire extinguishers and call 911 - it's gonna be a five alarm blaze!!!!!! The real mystery - the who and why of the frame job of our five Misters - explodes into the present, and we get to spend time with all the Misters. The threats escalate, secrets are revealed and the danger grows exponentially. It's a classic Huss E-ticket ride. Would you expect any less with the Shrike version of a disney princess involved? My love for this series grows with every installment. I will be so sorry to see it end, but I'm so excited for The Misters to take back their lives - once and for all.
How many days until December 7th and Mister Match?
5 bippity boppity stars
Holy cow Book 4 in the Mister series was INTENSE and delivered in a big way- and while it raised more questions than it answered (AHHH!)- the biggest thing the book did was set us up for the final book in the series, Mr. Match. These books are “standalones” and can be read in any order other than book 5, which must be read last. Each book focuses on a different mister and what happens when they find their “Mrs.”
The overlying premise starts with 5 college guys (maybe) wrongly accused of rape and the effects it had on their lives after- including a life long [although uncomfortable] bond between "the misters” and Five. The (maybe) victim has been murdered resulting in the rape charges being dropped against the misters, but does not result in their names being cleared. This has stayed with each of the “Misters,” but maybe none more so than Mr. Mysterious, Paxton Vance.
In the prior books we were introduced to Mr. Mysterious, but never learned much about him. That changes in this book in a big way. We learn what drives him, some of his family history and exactly what he thinks about all the misters. However, the majority of this book focuses on the relationship between Pax and Cinderella (yay baby bomb!). Cinderella is craaazy (in the best of ways) and has decided that she and Pax were meant for each other- now all she has to do is convince him. Seriously. And she can’t be honest with him, because being the little sister of his best friend would totally make her off limits. Watching her work her magic was so amazing. Cindy is awesome. Totally confident, smart and goal oriented. She has been silently observing since she was young, learning everything she could from her family about what happened that night from her brother Oliver’s perspective. And what she has come up with, is the most important she can do, is help Paxton clear his name so he can move on.
Without giving away any secrets there are at least three major story bombs that are introduced. Seriously at least three times that I had to stop and look around like DID YOU SEE THAT COMING?!?! As much as I want to say this brought some clarity into what the heck is going on- the answer is I am no closer to seeing the big picture than I was after finishing Mr. Perfect. What I am is hooked and ready to see how J.A. Huss ties everything together in Mr. Match. This book, and this series, is amazing. The characters are so well developed and the suspense and story is fast paced. This book has a little less “action” than the last book, Mr. Corporate, but has a lot more set up for the final installment in the series. We have a hint at what’s going on, but I’m confident any guesses I have will be way off-mark.
I can’t wait to see how this all winds up and to see Oliver get his Mrs. I also really need (and have heard it might be happening) a book for Five. The things we learned about him in this book makes me want to see him get his HEA.

Paxton Vance lives a life of luxury and privilege, but even he is not immune to secrets, lies, and more fallout from "that night" a decade ago. He meets his match in a flirty, sexy, bombshell of a girl when he his stalked, and reeled in by none other than the Cindy Shrike, Pax's best friend and sister of the Mr. Match himself Oliver Shrike. Hiding her identity from Pax starts off easy but when mysterious things start happening, she is pulled into the tangled Misters web and all bets are off.
Cindy and Pax's banter and third person telling of their days is charming and sexy. Told in the noir style it adds an unexpected twist to the voice of the book and the relationship between these two lovers.
More twists and turns in true Huss form, With the steamiest of sex to bring it all together. Secrets are revealed but more questions linger. I was still left scratching my head wondering at this end of this book more than ever where the Misters and Missus will all wind up.
This a a thrill ride form start to finish and should not be missed.
