This book helped me to realize that I needed to get out of the relationship, that it WASN'T going to fix itself, I couldn't have a relationship with no progression, and on his terms only... It was just the kick in the pants that I needed and I stopped the casual romance with him two days after finishing it. Now, I tell everyone I meet about this book now. Thank you!
After coming out of an emotional and physically abusive marriage with a narcissistic Mr. Unavailable, I decided to stay to myself and avoid the opposite sex for several years. I went to intensive counseling for a year, got a life coach, returned to college and changed my career. I thought I did all the right things to prepare myself for dating again, but began to see hints that my old patterns of dealing with Mr. Unavailables were returning.
I started reading Natalie's blog, Baggage Reclaim and felt like she not only had lived my experiences, but that the stories she wrote reflected who I had been as a Fallback Girl, and would continue to be if I didn't recognize and get to the bottom of my patterns. These patterns of choosing unavailable men and women did not only occur in romantic relationships, but with my family.
I ordered 2 of her e-books and paid the additional for the audio narration. Best investment in my personal growth and healing ever. Natalie has done an excellent job in motivating me beyond anything I have worked on with my therapist and life coach. I have started kicking unavailable romantic interests, former crushes and family members out of my life. And I love how realistic Natalie is about when you are making the right choices in healing, you will still have to grieve what you will see as losses.
Sometimes I have anxiety about kicking unavailables out of my life, but being able to listen to the audio, read the book and utilize the tools on the Baggage Reclaim site has made me the major driving force in my healing. Is it easy? No. But it's necessary and listening to Natalie's book is like having access to my therapist, best friend and life coach 24/7 without the costs.
By the way, this book can be used by men. I know a young man who falls for unavailable women and he loves readingthe book.
My one issue with the audio is the narrator read to fast. But I loved her voice. And I embedded up slowing the speed of the narration to 0.85x. That was a perfect speed to enjoy the narration without missing key points.
