First off, let me start by stating that I am a big Bronson fan & I have all of his projects. He has a great voice for rapping & his subject matter is all over the place & you never know what to expect as a listener. I didn't even bother listening to the samples for this album because I figured that it would be a no brainer like the rest of his material but I was a little disappointed. First, he should have rapped more instead of trying to sing because it's not his fortay. Second, the production is not consistent & it could have better (he should have have stuck with one producer like he usually does & as a result the album doesn't flow well). Third, there are these instrumentals in the middle of the album that really just take up time. When you buy an Action Bronson album one expects more so hopefully next time it will be better.

Action has bars - the production on this album is amazing. Any true boom-bap fans should get behind Action, he keeps it OG, sticking to original orchestration and heavy sampling over live or vinyl drum breaks. His videos are practically hollywood movies - I hope Action starts getting in some movies, the dude can act!

I came late to the Action Bronson train. I heard a few songs here and there but never gave him the time of day. I finally decided to really listen to his work one day and instantly got hooked. Loved the Rare Chandeliers project he did with Alchemist and loved the Blue Chips series. Heard the project he did with Harry Fraud which was take it or leave it for me. Bronson was on point, but I always feel that Harry Fraud is the poor mans Madlib and that's putting it nicely. Anyways, when I saw Bronson was getting a major label debut, I was excited. The problem lied in the fact though that Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly dropped earlier than expected and I got soaked up in listening to that forgot about Bronson's project. I was looking for new music and remembered that Bronson had Mr. Wonderful out and put it on Spotify when I was at the gym and not giving it a full attention listen, and started thinking, "Crap! The major label made him change his whole style" and just forgot about it again. After a little time passed, I was listening to The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 and Action Bronson was on with Alchemist and he started talking about the album and I got more perspective on the tracks and why he did certain things on the album and thought I should give this another shot. After giving it a real play through, I instantly got hooked. Yeah, he sings on a few tracks, but when you find out why he did, it makes sense. This album find Bronson experimenting with different styles and sounds. It's still the same Bronson in a sense that he'll give you fire and those random moments that make you laugh. For the people that say this is garbage, don't listen to them. Those are the same people that are out there right now criticizing Krndrick's new album because it's not Good Kid, Maad City.Read more ›

Action is the best thing to come out of the NYC hip hop talent pool in over a decade! The guy is a proper MC with a very funny and likable personality. This is an enjoyable album from start to finish. It's nice to know that there are artists who still respect the craft of MCing!

Part cunning, charismatic high roller and part bemused, bewildered soul searcher, rap's biggest big man Action Bronson (Arian Asllani) is just about as diverse as his old Flushing, Queens haunts and the polycultural people that define that NYC village. Patience and a tenacious will delivered him through two independent studio albums (Dr. Lecter and Well-Done) and four mixtapes to a record contract with Atlantic and Vice Records. What followed was the Saaab Stories EP and Bronson's first LP on a major label, Mr. Wonderful. He still kind of sounds like Ghostface Killah, but he's original enough to where it's pretty easy to tell him apart from the Wu-Tang comparator, for whom he has the utmost respect by the way. To sum it all up: bizarrely imaginative, phantasmagoric lyrical-scenarios and descriptors, Bronson's standard references to food (he is also a well known gourmet chef), and psych rock plus jazzed up hip hop productions all mesh together to lay the foundation for a very solid official debut from a XXL Freshman who happens to wear the same t-shirt size.

Bronson starts boastful but also self-deprecative in "Brand New Car" and winds up being more of the former in later parts of the album. With a playful demeanor, he taunts and disparages wishy-washy ladies and girly men at intervals, though not contemptuously or hatefully either. In fact, it's the broads he's perplexed by the most in several songs. "Thug Love Story 2017 The Musical" finds one of Bronson's homies singing the blues about an elusive lady (who is also a metaphor for the drug game) lost to the streets, and then in "City Boy Blues," Bronson himself sings his own tales of heartbreak over 88-Keys' giddy jazz rock.
