This is a classic that one probably needs to grow up to read. Well, sixty-three is old enough. Years ago, I saw the movie, also old at the time, and I enjoyed it. However, it has nothing to do with the book, which is a series of reflections from 1939 by an upper-class middle-aged housewife adjusting to changes precipitated by the impending Second World War. One does not need to be in England, nor quite as old as I, to appreciate Mrs. Miniver's stream-of-consciousness. A new audience would appreciate having this is ebook form.

I loved the movie which turned the tide for the public sentiment of the US becoming involved in the war in Europe. It is not like the movie, but gives some additional flavor to the period. It's my kind of book. Many interesting insights and twists and trueisms.

It is a very interesting story about a middle class English family living in London in the lead up to and including WWll. Excellent descriptive writing about daily life, weekends away, Christmas and a summer holiday in Scotland.
