A witty, clever, action-packed, ironic romp that will keep you guessing with a smile from start to finish.
Excellent production values and a superb supporting cast.
Additionally, the Smiths find a love for each other that they depend on to enter a test of skill that is a bonnie and clyde stand-off with a group of shadowy killers. The ambush scene is touching in a way, but never stops being violent. the violence in the movie is a metaphor for the threat of domestic violence that shadows all normal marriages. And, as in life, working out problems and tensions that could lead to unhappy and unsafe marriages, the proof of the hard work that makes a good marriage is the unbreakable resultant genuine marital fidelity of each partner, here symbolized by *Mr. and Mrs. Smith* as survival against all odds.
No plot spoilers from me: The movie centers on a typical upper-middle class couple living a seeming normal life in suburbia, but both leading double lives as assassins. The pace of the movie starts out a little slowly, but picks up as their relationship and work lives begin to collide.
There is definite on screen chemistry between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and that goes a long way to compensate for some of the slower scenes and occasionally hokey situations.
This is not a very deep movie, but it is a good choice when looking for a lot of action, a little romance, and a laugh or two.
