I always look up the details of the author, and Professor John Paden, as it turns out, is probably the top expert on Nigerian politics in the US and one of the most respected experts on the subject in the world. One interesting point the reader finds out at the beginning of the book is that Paden has indeed been friends with Buhari for more than three decades. Paden duly notes that this book is "a personal perspective" as well as an objective biography, and he donates all author royalties from the book to the establishment of a Nigerian research and reading room at George Mason University, where he teaches.
So if Nigerian politics--and history--is something you want to know about, and not just this very interesting man who has become his country's newest leader with the potential of implementing much-needed reforms, this book is easy to read and packed with information by the most qualified author alive. Highly recommended.
