Product Description

Muir Glen organic tomatoes are grown in the country’s prime tomato-growing region – the San Joaquin Valley of California. We’re named after legendary naturalist John Muir, and since our company’s founding over a decade ago, we’ve been committed to helping our farmers grow tomatoes organically.

Our growers’ certified organic farming methods create healthy, nutrient-rich soil, and all Muir Glen tomatoes are packaged without synthetic chemical additives of any kind. We believe that the care we take in growing and processing our tomatoes shows in our product’s spectacular flavor.

I use canned tomatoes in, well, nearly most things I cook. I tend to stock up on the 32oz cans of whole plum tomatoes but sometimes you just need a little less, and the fire-roasted flavor can be a nice touch. I prefer to buy organic wherever possible and reasonable, and I like most Muir Glen products. These tomatoes are good, though they are packed in more of a water than sauce, so I always drain them before use. Some other canned tomato products I will dump straight into the pot, but I don't think these are great for that. They also aren't ideal for making tomato sauces but I use them for lots of other things: adding some tomato to bean chilis, throwing together a quick salsa, making spanish rice, adding to soups or stews, and (this is seriously delicious) stirring into a prepared batch of Annie's mac and cheese, along with a can of chickpeas. If you haven't tried this, it is SO good for a quick meal.
Great pantry staple, at a MUCH better price with subscribe and save than you'd pay at the grocery store.

It's organic cruahed tomatoes in a can - simple, right? Our local grocery has a house brand that is also organic and priced a bit below the Muir Glen brand. The difference? You guessed it -- the fire roasting. The taste difference is subtle, but if you use this in a recipe that leaves the crushed tomato taste exposed, you'll be pleasantly surprised. A nice touch, and hats off to the genie in the can.

There's a price difference vs. standard organic fare, not worth it for the penny-pinching world if you are furloughed government employee as of the writing of this review, but for other folks it will be worth the difference.

I ordered this case because at the top of the page it clearly states "no salt added" so someone please explain why the can not only lists salt as an ingredient, the sodium content is 110mg/serving. If it had no added salt it would be somewhere around 25-30mg. I am not happy, not happy at all.

I searched for salt-free pasta sauce. This product was listed. The notes say no salt added, but if you access the pic of nutritional info you will see that one can contains more than 600 mg of sodium....way too much. Muir Glen is playing with numbers: they have one product that lists 110 mg sodium per serving and another that lists 200 per serving, but if you add up the "servings" amount per can, both products total the same amount of sodium per can.

If sodium is an issue for you, you can't take as true the information Amazon lists for the product - check our the label first before ordering.

We bought these Muir Glen Organic Crushed Fire Roasted Tomatoes via Subscribe and Save for the added savings and will order them again...

Good fire roasted flavor and love that they are organic (while priced here like non-organic varieties). The first can I used was in my pasta sauce and I made the mistake of not draining them first. They are in water so good for soup but best drained for most everything else.

Delicious and, although they have sea salt, we didn't find them to be too salty. Received all 12 as described. Packaged well for easy placement in the pantry.

Uploading a photo so you can get a closer look. Smile. Hope this is helpful!

Organic and tasty AND I bought two cases when on sale. What more does one want? So many canned tomato products have a bitter bite or after taste OR they have so much sugar added, they're just sweet. These rise above those and are my standard for canned tomatoes. I highly recommend them. I've used them in pasta sauces as well as Cajun and Creole dishes and they're great in all of them.

Muir Glen is my favorite for canned tomatoes. Always flavorful. I started using them after hearing recommendations from chefs on various television shows. I've never been disappointed when I use this product.

I've been using Muir Glen products for over a decade and I've never been disappointed. These fire roasted tomatoes are no exception. I try to go organic as much as possible and prefer to know where my food comes from and what it contains. I become concerned when I need a lexicon/taxonomy to translate a food label. That's never a problem with Muir Glen products. I must admit I prefer my fresh home grown tomatoes of summer but these are a pantry staple I can always rely on. Highly recommend.
