Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered edition of the arty British Prog/Folk band's 1975 album, appearing here for the first time on CD. With the departure of original member John Gladwin in 1973, Eddie Baird and Terry Wincott decided to continue The Amazing Blondel due to continued demand for their music and loyalty of the fans. Eddie took up most of the writing of the material and whilst it was still Folk based, it now had a slightly more commercial bent with an eye to the charts. The album achieved critical success even with a new sound and direction. Certain tracks from the album became standards for live performances including 'Sad To See You Go' and 'Love Must Be The Best Time Of Our Lives'. Talking Elephant. 2009.

Their first effort for DJM was really far below the blue album entitled simply 'Blondel', their last for Island Records.

Not sure why, but it simply is not the equal of any of their other recordings. A real dud. Bad Dreams and Inspiration are far superior.

Disregard the other review of Mulgrave Street. Anyone who appreciates a well played variety of catchy songs will enjoy this fine album from 1974. Although Amazing Blondel had a well-earned reputation as a folk band, this is chock-full of great folk and rock songs, both acoustic and electric.

Despite its' pedestrian cover, Mulgrave Street is a gem. Eddie Baird wrote the majority of the songs with Terry Wincott providing two songs including "Leader of the Band". Anyone familiar with Island's Seventies albums will find a stellar cast of musicians supporting Baird and Wincott. Boz Burrell, Mick Feat and Pat Donaldson guest on bass. Drums are provided by Free's Simon Kirke as well as stalwart William Murray, with sparse keyboards from Eddie Jobson and Rabbit. One of Paul Kossoff's greatest performances is heard on "Hole in the head" All this and great dual production by John Glover and Phil Brown make Mulgrave Street a lost 70's classic.

This album (like some others) took a bit of getting used to. The more I listened, the more I fell in love again. My favorite cut is Keep 'em shining- just lovely all aroud!
