The sort tray/box seems to be decent quality and re-usable. It doesn't seem too brittle, you can flex the lid and tray, but I wouldn't want to drop it on a hard surface. It's about 7" x 5.75" (including the hinges and latch) and 1.25" deep. There are 5 large cells that will hold up to 3" screws and two small cells that will hold up to 1.5" screws. (Slight different from the one pictured, at the time of my purchase, which appears to have 4 large and 4 small cells) The lid is dimpled so the trays are stackable if you have more than one in this size. I like that it has a slide latch, instead of flexible tabs, and a real hinge.
The set comes with one #2 phillips bit and one #2 square bit. The #2 phillips fits all screws in the set (#6,# 8, and #10.) But #2 square bit only fits #8 and #10 (#6 screw takes a #1 square bit instead.) If you already have a blue #2 PSD (Phillips Square Drive) bit, it will not work with the #6 screws. This is why the set doesn't come with the blue PSD that bit you typically get in medium or large boxes of #8 or #10 Spax screws.
Overall I am happy with the kit, but I will probably re-organize it to all #8 and #10 screws to work with the #2 PSD bit. Small refill boxes, 20 to 40 screws depending on size, are available at Home Depot for about two bucks each. I plan to use these to refill the assortment as needed.
In other words, it's nice to have the Philips as a backup in a pinch, but otherwise, use the square bit. I'm still giving these five stars because I see no real way to avoid the problem without fundamentally changing the design, and I wouldn't hesistate to buy these again. But, if someone asks you for a good Philips screw, get them to see the square drive light, or point them elsewhere altogether—it's missing the point of the SPAX design.
The package indicates the self-drilling is limited to wood, although it will likely work for most plastics as well. They are not designed to self-drill in concrete or metal, including sheet metal. However, the product is simply advertised as "self-drilling" without any additional information, or otherwise I would give it 5 stars. I feel this is deceptive advertising.
