Professional? Yes. Roadie? NO!
Finding a way to fit more drums in less cases is paramount and always on my mind.
You may have already guessed I drag all my equipment and set it up myself--- at every gig. Its part of the game, but the setup, breakdown and hauling are the least fun parts of the night.
This bag makes all of that easier! Having one bag to safely store up to 4 drums and easily roll them to the truck is a pleasure.
For me--this bag easily holds 3 drums and a fan--> a floortom (14") a snare (14", a rack tom (12") and a electric fan that is about 12 inches round.
You could put in another 10" or 12" tom in place of the fan if you wanted.
Get this bag. Make your life a little easier.
Its made of heavy duty fabric, fairly thick and padded, and has grat zippers. I have been using it for about a year with no problems at all.
I found it a bit awkward to get the drums into the bag. The bag is not rigid, so it doesn't stand up on it's own. To load the drums you have to lie the bag down on the floor. Even then, the bag flops around freely, which makes it difficult to get the floor tom loaded. Once the first drum or two are in, the bag will stand on it's own, and the rest of the drums go in much easier.
When bag is loaded, I found it to be quite convenient. It has lots of handles in all the right places which is great for loading into a vehicle. It also rolled easily, didn't tip over (I had nothing in the side pockets), and it fit nicely into the trunk of my car (Chrysler 300). There's not a lot of padding in the bag, so try not to bump it too much. But there are 3 padded spacers to keep the drums from banging into each other inside the bag, and the straps on the outside of the bag do a decent job of keeping the drums in place.
Bottom line for me is that although it's a fine bag in most respects, it doesn't quite fit my drums, and I still find it preferable to use individual bags for each drum. With mixed emotions, I'll be returning it.
So it won't work for gigging and frequent travel. For me, however, it was a one-time move and I wanted to keep all my drums in one bag since we hired a moving company and I wouldn't be there to supervise it. The case did its job, I'm happy to report.
Some bonus points: the case is stable and sturdy in the vertical position. Wheels make it really easy to move around. The side pockets came in handy for all the hardware.
Honestly… with this, the DW drum rug (also serves as a hardware bag…) and a cymbal bag it only takes me one trip to load everything in and out of a venue. Well worth the investment.
The bag seems very well made, nicely padded, sturdy fabric and good zippers. I have not had an issue with the wheels, they seem to work just fine. Sure, there is a risk of tipping to the side (perhaps they could have spaced them a little wider apart) but I find that pulling it while holding the top handle all but eliminates any tipping tendencies. And, it stands on end on it's own, so it's also great for storing my kit (bonus!)
All in all, I am very satisfied with my purchase!
CONS: 1st bag he bought had 4 small slack adjusters that helped keep bag rigid around drums for transport. Newer bags cut back to 3, even though clips heavier. Keep heavier clips, but go back to 4.
