This litter clumps well, but the fragrance is horrible, and the 99.9% dust-free claim is a lie. Every time I clean my cats' box, I'm having to hold my breath from all of the dust. And when I'm done, I smell like the litter - - - this stuff leaves behind a dusty residue all over my hair, clothes, and skin. Our litter box is next to a set of cabinets in the laundry room, and the cabinets are constantly covered in a thick layer of litter dust.

My husband buys this litter in bulk at Costco to save money, but it's just not worth it. I'll be searching for a different cat litter.

I can't comment on the bag, my husband opened it. It is the litter itself I dislike. It clumped OK, but I have never choked before on litter dust in all the years I have had cats. An awful perfumed dust filled my nostrils, made my nose run and made me cough. I had to cover my nose and mouth to clean the box. At least I could do that--but the cats are unprotected, and I worry about what it may do to them. Think I will have to throw the rest out.

This litter is so dusty and it has an overpowering scent of perfume that you can smell on your cats and all over the house when you change the litter boxes. I have never written a review but this needed to be written.
Everything in the room that the litter boxes are in are covered in a layer of heavily perfumed dust.
Terrible experience...

We have been buying this at Costco for a few years with no real problem other than the dust issue. Around the beginning of 2013 the formula changed (big "BETTER PRODUCT" on the side of the bag). Our girl cat started to aggressively groom herself until she had seeping wounds all over, the base of her tail, tummy, back. We brought her to the vet who thought may be she became sensitive to her food. We ended up giving her a steroid shot and changing her food to hypo-allergenic kitty food.

Her skin condition returned 6 weeks later, and we were back at the vet getting another series of steroids. We continued the special food and even bathed her per our Vets instructions. She did well for a while, however we were back 6 weeks later and her wounds were the worse they had ever been. After another round of steroids , we changed her food to a rabbit based hypo-allergetic formula. We discussed the litter too and she advised us to give Precious cat - Dr. Elsey brand a go.

We did change over to Precious Cat, there was no dust at all. The best part is 2 months later, our sweet little girl cat has not had anymore skin issues. We went back to our regular cat food a few weeks ago. She is doing great. This was a terrible experience for us and our cat. After all the trial and error we went through, I am convinced it was the Scoop Away that started it all.

I would never recommend this product to anyone.

I didn't even know they could make cat litter this bad. Heavily dusty, heavily perfumed, sends a cloud into the air every time I clean or the cat uses the box, and makes him sneeze. Dust settles into his coat and makes him reek, and makes my hands reek and feel gritty when I pet him - I have to wash them afterwards, and after only a week of using it I'm going to have to give the cat a bath, too. Dust and grains track everywhere, I always know where the cat has been, and even leaves that horrible perfume smell on places where he was laying - on papers on my desk, on my bed, wherever. A few grains got caught in his coat when it was a little bit wet, and they melted like glue, I had to cut them out. And the bag!!!! You can hardly get your hand into the narrow opening to scoop out a refill, and my arm comes out coated with dust. If I try to pour it, a cloud of dust erupts. This garbage is going into the garbage can, I think it is a health hazard!

Guys:

This is an updated review (please see original earlier review below as well). Although I really liked Scoop Away at first due to the clumping ability and I didn't seem to mind the dust or perfume so much as other reviewers, however over the past year I began using the bulk version of litter from Petco which is much less dusty, has no scent (although it does still seem to cover up the smell of cat poo and pee pretty well) and I think it's probably healthier for my cat. relative to the Petco brand, this version is pretty dusty when you first pour it in the box (a literal cloud appears over the box). Additionally, while the scent isn't bad, it's a bit odd and I do smell it on my cat's fur....don't really like that, I've also read so many reviews on Amazon (over half!) claiming that Scoop Away seems to give their cats (as well as some of their owners) serious breathing issues, and given the dust and chemicals that are likely in it, that wouldn't be too surprising. So although Scoop Away does work well for clumping and cleaning, I've decided to stick with my Petco unscented bulk brand for health reasons. Also, Petco's brand does not track outside the box and it does clump very well.

ORIGINAL REVIEW

There are many different versions of Scoop Away, but my favorite seems to be this scented version. Just to provide some background, I started off with a natural, walnut-shell based clumping litter (not Scoop Away) and although it was OK and did clump, the clumps were still kind of wet and crumbly and the urine always made it through to the bottom where it would sort of stick and I'd have to scrape it out. And lots of the litter stayed in my cat's paws and made it's way far outside the litter box and litter-catching mat.
