Pros: small and good looking.
Does a good job recording voice from up close.
Has a built-in speaker, internal dual (stereo) microphones, external headphone and microphone jacks.
Is rechargeable (no need to by batteries).
Also works as a great mp3 player (you can transfer any mp3 files you want onto it from your computer).
English manual was clear, easy to follow.

Cons and other observations. Recording level drops badly when recorder is moved away from the source of sound. The best sound for recording of voice is when placed some 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cm) from source, such as your mouth. Can be used to record voices as far as about 3 feet away from the recorder. Farther away recording levels become too low.
It's a good voice recorder. Not so much as a music recorder. Spend more money and buy a Tascam or Zoom recorder for music.
Included external microphone and headphones are bad (which is expected at this price range). I suggest to throw them away. Internal microphones produce pretty good results. I also tested it with my external Sony ECMCS3 lapel stereo microphone and it worked great!
It has no micro SD card slot. Internal memory is 8 GB, which is quite good.
The internal rechargeable battery is non-replaceable. I hope it will last a long time, but when it fails you can kiss your recorder good-bye. .

Nifty, little tape recorder

This is a nifty, little mini tape recorder. It tapes well and has very good sound recording. It is not hard to figure out how to use it, however it is not exactly simple either. It is hard to scroll back and forth between recordings and is very easy to skip off of the recording if you so much as touch it with playback and then you have to start listening all over again. It would be very nice if this was an audio detecting recorder. I'm trying to catch something and it's taking hours to listen through. It has to be charged fairly often, but can record for at least 8-10 hours or more without a problem. The recorder has the time of the recording down to the second which is very nice. The device is compact. I have be unable to pull the audio recording up on a Mac. The device comes with many plugs compatible with computers, chargers, and it comes with headphones which is very nice. The instructions are in English. It wears out over time and it takes a long time to playback and a button that makes it easier to fast forward would be nice. I have taped in segments and have played back for hours listening trying to catch a stalker only to have the fast forward cancel out and go back to zero and have to relisten.

I ordered this no-brand *8GB* (black body) on August 3, 2014. I received it professionally shipped from Singapore on August 16. Its total $17.51 price is much lower than my silver *4GB* unit with Anybest printed at its front bottom that I ordered at the same time. More important than the color of their front and back covers, it is their Firmware version. The Anybest unit has a 2013/06/25 date. This one from Generic is dated 2014/03/06. More recent Firmware is better. You find it in Setting Mode.

The Anybest MENU button is renamed MODE for this version. It is used to select, then confirm a function. The white lettering on the black exterior is easier on the eyes than the more expensive unit with the silver body. A sturdy nice storage box is provided; its closing flap has two magnets. The same two pre-recorded songs on the Anybest silver unit are present, showing the recorders are produced by the same manufacturer. So, just go for this 8GB deal with its recent software.

Its operation is initially frustrating. You need to get used to the lengthy steps before you can truly enjoy your tiny machine. Give your new purchase a deserved fair chance. Otherwise you either rush it back for a refund OR you angrily step on it like a cockroach.

On August 16, 2014, I ordered two more of these no-branded 8GB units @ $17.51 each. They were delivered on August 28. I was disappointed they were just tossed inside a bulb-padded envelope with their accessories. I sorted the parts out. No fancy storage boxes. I would like to purchase more to give away to friends.

I ordered my fifth recorder @ $17.47 on August 30, 2014. It arrived in a neat storage box on September 13.

Just unboxed it and it won't even record. Video proof!! It's fully charged. What a waste of money. I wish I could give a negative review. Now I have to spend more money but on a different store to get another one. I had this one for awhile. Didn't open it till I got all equipment I needed for ghost hunting and I regret it because if I tested it out sooner to know it is crap and junk I could of requested for a refund or replacement. Don't make that mistake!!
