The bottom line is if you are looking for one everyday cutting board, I highly recommend the medium version of this board instead of this one. Or, do like I did & get both and have this one "on standby" for large roasts and poultry.
According to Amazon, I bought this in January 2009, so I've had it for five years. I cook almost daily and so have subjected it to serious knife action. I hand wash it and prop it to drip dry (no hand drying!). I've never oiled it or done anything except wash it. I even occasionally leave it overnight with bits of food/chicken grease/etc. drying on it. In other words, I am not very nice to my cutting board! However, despite my laziness, it is in perfect shape. No splits, feet still on, wood in great shape. Obviously, there are knife marks, but they aren't deep or excessive. The wood in the center (where most of the knife action happens) has less of a finish than the edges, but, considering I've never oiled it, that is to be expected. I'm confident this board will last me at least another five years, if not longer.
Why it is great:
-It is BIG, which makes chopping veggies much easier and means you can carve meat on it. I find small cutting boards to be awkward and less efficient.
-It has a nice deep groove for catching juice from carving meat.
-It has feet that 1) keep it from slipping and 2) keep it slightly elevated off the counter so if you leave it out moisture doesn't collect underneath.
-It has a handle to make moving it around a bit easier.
-The wood is hard and not prone to getting gouged by knives (as can happen on some softer boards) or splitting.Read more ›
I have now had it for just over a year, and except for making sure that there is no water left standing on it and handwashing it with mild soap and air drying it every night, I have not taken much care of it. I know I should oil the board regularly, but I never have had the time to do it. It has held up under my negligience, no warp, no splitting.
I cut a lot of vegetables/fruit and the size of the board is perfect for me; something smaller would have been less useful.
I definitely recommend this cutting board.
Weight is actually less than expected for a board this size. I would and have reccomended this to others.
That being said, it's a wood board, so take care of it. Keep it clean, don't submerge it in water, and use appropriate tools on it like knives only. I used a pizza cutter on it once and it left wide grooves due to the thickness of the cutting wheel. Also, get one cutting board for produce and cooked foods (I use this Mundial board for those items) and a second cutting board for raw meat (my preference has come to be a poly board for this).
A good quality board like this is beneficial for the edge of your knives. It has a large, comfortable cutting surface, the gutter and hand grip are nice features for keeping any liquids on the board and easy carrying, and the rubber feet keep it firmly in place. It is a thick piece of wood, so it's not light, but because of the weight and quality, if it is taken care of, this cutting board will last a very long time.

This board was wonderful until it was ~3 months old. After 3 months of use the board started to split. The board was never placed in the dishwasher, it never soaked. Read morePublished on April 18, 2012 by D. Speidel

There are two things I really like about this board. The first are the feet, they stop the board from moving around when you are wresting with large chunks of meat. Read morePublished on September 14, 2011 by GalvezGuy
The first thing I had to do was clean this board very thoroughly, particularly the grooves around the edges where countless slivers were sticking out. Read morePublished on March 5, 2010 by J. Lethal
